This position is accountable for the effective development and management of the Baystate Medical Center’s Surgery Serviceline Program development. The Director will serve to build the serviceline program and initate the program collabertively during both the development and completion The Director also routinely serves in a consultative role regarding strategy and operations for those services within the Baystate Healthcare System. They will additionally serve as a resource to other serviceline development programs within Surgical Services.
The incumbent assures compliance with Joint Commission, DPH, and other regulatory agency standards, laws, and regulations for Program Development Surgical Services Service line Programs at Baystate Health System. Develops and maintains policies, procedures, methods and standards to ensure effective, economical and efficient delivery of care.
The incumbent establishes and monitors quality assessment and improvement plan to assure professional and technical competence, as well as the efficiency and effectiveness of operational systems. He/she co-chairs the Serviceline Operational Teams and work in collaberation with Surgeon Serviceline Leadership. He/she maintains a quality control program to monitor personnel qualifications, training, performance, equipment and facilities for the care of surgical patients.
The incumbent establishes and monitors Baystate Health objectives in support of BH goals and develops both short and long-range plans for their accomplishment. The incumbent prepares annual departmental operating, capital and new program budgets . Monitors budget performance throughout the fiscal year.
The incumbent analyzes and promotes capital acquisitions. He/she will review potential capital purchases and not only provide cost information to senior management and Surgical Leadership. Recommendations of priority for purchase between capital investments as well as short term and long term planning for capital needs within the serviceline.
The incumbent collaberated and coordinates departmental personnel in cooperation with subordinate managers regarding evaluation, scheduling, orientation, training, and staff development. Approves all personnel actions including wage changes,provides input into disciplinary actions, hiring, termination and similar actions. He/she resolves grievance and personnel problems, investigates and resolves complaints and problems that have been referred to the incumbent.
The incumbent collaborates directly with the Chairman of Surgery, the Chairman of Anesthesia,Surgeon Leadership for Serviceline, the Medical Director of the Operating Room, and Anesthesia Directors.
Bachelors Degree Required. Master's Degree Preferred. AORN Membership.
Previous program development and progressive management experience in a healthcare setting required.
Demonstrated leadership in the professional field of surgery and anesthesia as demonstrated by presentations at conferences, seminars, lecturing, consulting and related activities.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills needed to communicate with all leves of the organizations and community.
