Who we are looking for:

You will lead M&A for AppFolio’s real estate software business.  You will work directly with the AppFolio leadership team to research priority investment areas, identify relevant companies, and initiate contact with key decision makers.  You will build personal relationships with owners and key executives of selected investment targets and lead deal execution on potential transactions.  You will take accountability for post-acquisition integration and achievement of acquisition objectives.

Outcomes - Year 1

  • Work closely with Real Estate Product leadership to identify priority investment areas. Develop landscapes of relevant market segments including market size, market segmentation, growth rate, and target companies.  Create investment hypotheses detailing the potential attractiveness of each area
  • Identify and source new investment opportunities by leveraging the executive team’s deep network in the Real Estate industry and by developing your own network of contacts, including by attending industry conferences
  • Build personal relationships with owners and key executives of selected investment targets as well as other key influencers including investment bankers, business brokers, lawyers, and industry experts. Develop and maintain CRM database of potential targets
  • Perform transaction due diligence, including market, product, customer, and competitor analysis, with a heavy emphasis on primary research; financial modeling; and transaction execution including legal, accounting, tax, and other functional due diligence
  • Manage creation of post-acquisition integration and performance plan

Competencies & Experience

  • Genuine interest in investing, company building, and the software industry
  • Highly analytical - Superior business analysis skills and ability to analyze what the numbers mean in the context of a specific company and industry
  • Self-motivated and excellent work ethic
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Fun to work with
  • Prefer successful professional experience with a top consulting firm, investment bank, private equity/VC firm, or corporate M&A team. Prior experience working with/for SaaS businesses is a plus
