The Director, Medical Staff Services directs and oversees the medical administrative functions of the Medical Staff Office Department and site Medical Staff Organization in order to fulfill applicable regulatory requirements in accordance with state and federal law. Provides key administrative support to the site's Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the President of the Medical Staff, the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) and other Medical Staff Officers and members to ensure that the business, functions and governance of the voluntary medical staff organization is effective and compliant with Medical Staff Bylaws. This position's role also includes the confidential management and oversight of medical staff information. The Director directs, develops, implements, maintains and evaluates the hospital's and Medical Staff's credentialing process and ensures the initial appointment, as well as the subsequent reappointment of qualified and properly credentialed physicians and other health care practitioners included in the medical staff bylaws.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provides advice and support to the site CEO, the President of the Medical Staff, CMO, and other medical staff officers in a broad range of activities pertaining to the Medical Staff in order to support effective medical staff governance. Provides appropriate communication and acts as a liaison with hospital senior management and other Presence Health (PH) Officers, as needed, regarding meeting agendas, management presentations at meetings, reports, etc.
  • Ensures compliance with accrediting bodies and regulatory agencies as they pertain to medical staff governance issues. Participate in the preparation and on-site survey activities of various accrediting, regulatory bodies.
  • Assures that the findings, conclusions and recommendations for actions to appoint or reappoint applicants and/or improve the credentialing program are reported through appropriate medical staff committees, the Board of Directors, and/or appropriate leadership and approved in a timely manner.
  • Develops, directs, implements, maintains, and evaluates the Credentialing Program with particular emphasis on supporting the medical staff leadership, department chairpersons, and section chiefs to appoint qualified applicants for medical staff membership or reappoint current members to medical staff in collaboration with the Centralized Verification Office.
  • Works in collaboration with the Medical Staff Bylaws Committee, the Medical Executive Committee, the Medical Staff, the site CEO, the site CMO, and corporate legal counsel in developing and managing amendments to the Bylaws, Rules & Regulations, and medical staff policies. Assists in formulating and implementing related policies and procedures.

Education and/or Experience:

Bachelor's degree in business or social sciences-related area or healthcare related experience is required.

Minimum three years of credentialing experience in a hospital setting required.

Computer Skills:

Proficiency in Microsoft Office software. Experience in database management.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

Certified Provider Credentialing Specialist (CPCS) and/or Certified Professional Medical Services Management (CPMSM) certification is preferred.
