The Company’s leadership in the understanding of TGF-beta biology and protein engineering generates innovative compounds that engage the body’s ability to regulate cellular growth and repair. Acceleron focuses its research and development efforts in hematologic, neuromuscular, and pulmonary diseases. In hematology, the Company and its global collaboration partner, Celgene, are developing luspatercept for the treatment of chronic anemia in myelodysplastic syndromes, beta-thalassemia, and myelofibrosis. Acceleron is also advancing its neuromuscular franchisewith two distinct Myostatin+ agents, ACE-083 and ACE-2494, and a pulmonary program with a Phase 2 trial of sotatercept planned in pulmonary arterial hypertension. Position Overview:

The Director of Medical Affairs will spearhead the development of medical strategy and planning for medical affairs activities at Acceleron.  This hire will build and lead the Medical Affairs function in order to provide scientific and medical leadership by thoroughly understanding relevant disease areas and serving as a key medical resource for our programs.

Job Responsibilities: 

  • Develop and lead Medical Affairs plans in support of our therapeutic areas as we continue tomove our drug candidates through clinical development and commercialization
  • Responsible for the strategic development and operational execution of medical affairs plans aligned with company goals and objectives
  • Provide medical input for promotional activities, sales training, and medical information
  • Ensure that best practices are met to provide medical insight to Medical Affairs initiatives
  • Provide scientific and medical support for publications and presentations as needed
  • Support and collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement Medical Affairs strategy toensure patient-focused activities
  • Support internal and external requests for KOL engagement, strategic alliances, and collaborators
  • Hire and train Medical Science Liaisons and support MSL activities
  • Assess medical education needs and develop internal and external educational activities
  • Continuously maintain deep scientific and medical knowledge of relevant therapeutic areas

Basic Qualifications:

  • M.D. or M.D./Ph.D. degree required
  • Prior experience (minimum 5 yearsworking in the biopharmaceutical industry withmarketed products and launch experience
  • Subspecialty training and board eligibility/certification in hematology, neuromuscular, or pulmonary preferred
  • Demonstrated knowledge of hematology and past experience working with a product in this therapeutic area
  • Prior leadership of a field-based MSL team
  • Strong strategic planning and product evaluation skills
  • Proven leadership experience as well as the ability to influence dynamic and cross functional teams
  • Knowledge of global regulatory and cGCP standards
  • Superb verbal and written communication and presentation skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, motivational and collaboration skills
  • Demonstrated ability to drive positive results and creatively solve complex problems
  • Entrepreneurial spirit; comfortable with rapid change, resource constraints, and the need tobe flexible about roles
