Summerville Medical Center is a 94-bed HCA hospital system with a 24-hour emergency room and comprehensive medical services. The facility enjoys an enviable reputation for its cardiac services, pediatrics and women’s service, including “home-like” birthing suites. Trident Health is a multi-facility health system located in South Carolina's Lowcountry, and is part of the national HCA healthcare network. Trident is comprised of two acute care hospitals – Trident Medical Center and Summerville Medical Center – and Moncks Corner Medical Center, which provides outpatient medical services and 24/7 Emergency Services. Position Summary:

Under the direction of the Administrative Vice President of Women and Children’s, the director is responsible for the delivery of quality patient care through the nursing process of assessment, diagnosing, planning, implementation and evaluation. The Director is responsible for directing all nursing care for patients based on established clinical nursing practice and federal, state, and local regulations. The Director incorporates knowledge of patient’s age specific development and cultural diversity into the plan of care. The Director contributes to quality nursing care through process improvement techniques and multidisciplinary collaboration that demonstrates positive outcomes in the delivery of patient care.

Directs outreach activities for key Maternal and Fetal Medicine Clinic and telehealth service lines that will be provided to other HCA facilities in the South Atlantic Division. Schedules and coordinates site visits to rural communities and coordinates CME programs. Works closely with the Administrative Vice President of Women and Children’s and the Office Manager to promote growth of the Maternal and Fetal Medicine service line. Represents SMC at conferences and other vendor sites as appropriate. Cultivates and maintains relationships with physicians and facilities. Responsible for the supervision of all clinical staff. Formulates business development strategies for expanding the Maternal and Fetal Medicine service line. Facilitates the referral system including identification of outreach patients, coordinating patient follow up, daily patient/family rounds, and problem solving issues.

The Director has the direct-line responsibility for day-to-day operations and overall responsibility for the nursing clinic and outreach telehealth in the South Atlantic sites, insuring that employees have effective management, good communication and appropriate discipline. The Director insures that the office manager fulfill their responsibilities as front-line supervisors. The Director is responsible on a 24-hour basis for the coordination of patient care, administrative, and nursing activities. The Director is responsible on a 24 hours basis for the quality of nursing care provided to patient. The Director is responsible for the implementation and evaluation of all nursing care and related activities.

Position Requirements:

A. Licensure/Certification/Registration:

Current license as a registered Nurse to practice in the State of South Carolina or a compact state.

  • · BLS-Healthcare Provider on hire (American Heart)
  • · Specialty Certification highly preferred within 3 years of hire.

  1. B. Education: Graduate of a NLN accredited school of nursing. BSN required, Master’s Degree preferred in business administration, nursing, or health administration.

  1. C. Experience: Recent nursing practice, with experience in a nursing leadership position preferred. Physically and mentally capable to satisfy job requirements. Performs in accordance with delineated job responsibilities and satisfactorily completes a yearly evaluation based on these responsibilities. Must possess the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively meet the needs of the patient/internal & external customer.

Special qualifications: Effective communication skills; both orally and written, with flexible interpersonal skills to facilitate the exchange of information within all levels of the organization. Computer skills needed. Ability to manage a team and work with others within a team to ensure quality patient care. Strong problem solving skills. Creative and innovative skills in personnel management and ability to facilitate growth and development of department and staff.
