Position Overview

Provides underwriting technology and underwriting expertise and support to both the EHR and Underwriting Services Teams. Interprets sources of information and understands the requirements of underwriting programs, then develops and maintains severity scores and underwriting rule sets based on this information. Works closely with Business Development, AURA Technology, and client companies to ensure business goals are met.

Responsibilities

EHR Team

  • Serve as a resource for underwriting expertise and support while participating in research and development of new EHR programs, pilots and ventures.
  • Assist in the expansion of the scoring system to include attributes and synergistic scores where possible.
  • Work with technical teams to develop guidelines used in training Natural Language Processing and Machine Learning tools to mine unstructured text in EHRs.
  • Perform or participate in client studies as needed to gain feedback, monitor success and identify and implement needed changes or enhancements; serve as the primary underwriting resource for clients on all US EHR initiatives
  • Work closely with the EHR team and, in the case of underwriting-related tasks, lead the team to ensure that team goals are met

Underwriting Services Team

  • Provide underwriting technology and underwriting expertise and support while assisting the UST in research and development of new underwriting programs and ventures.
  • Participate in underwriting studies as required
  • Monitor existing e-underwriting programs, implementing enhancements as needed and providing client support
  • Develop and continually refine RGA's Master rulesets using underwriting expertise
  • Work with USMM actuarial and GRD staff to develop underwriting components used in predictive models.
  • Serve as the primary contact between the Underwriting Services Team and client company underwriters who want to implement an underwriting approach within AURA.
  • Work closely with Underwriting Service Team and/or client underwriters to insure that the AURA project team and rules developer implement within AURA an underwriting approach that works as designed and is in line with RGA's underwriting philosophy.
  • Serves as an SME and oversees the entire process (above) to ensure the needs of the business are met.
  • Document and track multiple versions of automated underwriting rules
  • Provide guidance and mentoring to clients and colleagues regarding the rules development process and RGA's underwriting philosophy and approach.
  • Work closely with the UST to ensure that team goals are met

  • Maintains regular and predictable attendance
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Required:

 Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience

 7-8 years reinsurance underwriting experience or 9+ years direct Life underwriting experience

 2-3 years of Underwriting Technology experience

Preferred:

• BS/ BA Science or Business

• ACS, ALU, FLMI, FALU or CLU accreditation or progress towards accreditation

• 10+ years reinsurance underwriting experience
