Summary of Position:

Each year, some 5,000 foreign university students and professionals come to the U.S. on CIEE’s Professional Exchange (PREX) programs (Intern, Trainee, Professor & Research Scholar, Short-Term Scholar and Specialist categories). These participants spend their time in the U.S. in structured training programs with Host Organizations. The Director, Professional Exchange Programs will oversee all aspects of these programs.The Director will manage dedicated staff to promote and grow the programs; steward relationships with hosts, international representatives and universities; ensure high levels of service and customer satisfaction; and ensure adherence to Department of State regulations and CIEE policies.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Prepare annual budgets; manage to budget and report on sales (actual and projected) on a monthly basis
  • Maintain high levels of service and relationships with key overseas collaborators (international representatives)
  • Oversee processing of applications and training plans adhering to Department of State regulations, CIEE policies and agreed turnaround times; redesign processes as necessary
  • Develop and manage strategies for growing the programs to maximize usage of our allocation
  • Manage sales staff to achieve growth goals
  • Liaise with leaders of other Exchanges businesses to ensure collaboration in sales, marketing and communications activities
  • Work with marketing department to maintain and develop application materials, websites, handbooks, marketing materials, student communication, and so on
  • Work with VP, Work Exchange Programs to maintain relationships with key staff at U.S. Department of State, industry groups, other sponsors and other stakeholders
  • Other duties as required

Knowledge & Skill Requirements:

  • Demonstrated ability manage, motivate and coach staff in high-volume, changing environments
  • Demonstrated ability to develop budgets and manage to those budgets
  • Experience conducting analysis on operational and sales data
  • Experience reporting on operational and sales activities, including forecasting
  • Ability to motivate staff to sell, track progress and address areas of opportunity
  • Ability to motivate staff to process applications carefully and in a timely way
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Attention to detail and sense of urgency
  • Ability to work across teams to achieve results
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Domestic and international travel will be required
