MPS, a division of Macmillan Publishers, a leading US publisher of Trade and Academic titles, has a job opening for a Director, IT in our Gordonsville facility. MPS provides back office support, warehousing, and, fulfillment for Macmillan US, and is their primary distribution facility for North America.

Purpose of the Role:

Responsible for overseeing the development, implementation, and maintenance Order to Cash systems and services, ensuring they are aligned with business objectives and meet the needs of our users.

Key Responsibilities/tasks:

  • Develop and execute the company's technology strategy in alignment with business objectives.
  • Lead and mentor a team of technical professionals, providing guidance and support in the execution of critical projects and initiatives. Drive the professional development and growth of the project management team, ensuring that team members have the necessary skills and competencies to excel in their roles
  • Collaborate with senior management, cross-functional teams, users, consultants, technical teams, and vendors to project objectives, scope and requirements, ensuring alignment with business goals and strategic priorities.
  • Ensure the confidentiality, accuracy, and security of corporate data, proprietary information, and intellectual property.
  • Oversee the development, implementation, and maintenance of all technology systems and services, including new functionality, bug fixes, and enhancements.
  • Evaluate new designs and applications to identify opportunities for improved performance, effectiveness, and cost reductions.
  • Prepare written reports and presentations on findings for IT and company senior management to support recommendations for upgrades, purchases, or maintenance enhancements.
  • Develop, enhance, and maintain policies and procedures to facilitate efficient processing of transactions, information, and providing recommendations for improving system infrastructure and business continuity protocols.


Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, MIS, or a related field.


Skills/Experience Required:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, MIS, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in IT leadership roles with proven success in technology strategy and operations.
  • Strong knowledge and experience with PC software, including MS Excel, MS Project, and MS Access or other equivalent software.
  • Demonstrated excellent customer relations, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience managing project managers and internal/external project teams.
  • Proven ability to re-engineer business processes and systems to drive operational excellence and support business growth.
  • Thorough understanding of system development, implementation, and integration.
  • Ability to work independently as a team leader and member.


Physical Requirements:

The physical demands of this job include sitting for extended periods, using hands to operate a computer, and occasionally lifting or moving up to 50 pounds.
