THE ROLE: The Director, IT Data Architecture and Strategy leads the design, development and implementation of digital, business intelligence, data warehouse, and master data management solutions and strategies. This professional will direct the design of new applications from conception to completion and oversee the technical staff involved with the development projects. The role will be focused on designing application interfaces and software services to maximize reuse based on the business processes and governance rules.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform the job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

  • Perform business analysis, application design, development, integration and delivery, and design application maintenance and support functions.
  • Create, maintain and support the DATA strategy and architectural designs while working with DATA team leaders.
  • Design an application's technical infrastructure, such as specific databases, programming languages, utilities, and testing approaches. Participates in the assessment of software defects discovered during the quality assurance process. Participates in addressing enterprise-wide platform and technology requirements for applications. Be able to build out a working model of generative Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning with the DATA organization leadership team.
  • Excel in a fast past environment, while providing a high level of quality and control. Provide thought leadership and a vision for the future of DATA, while providing a scalable platform for speed and efficiency.
  • Work closely with business SME personnel to develop and maintain a functional understanding and documentation of the business use of applications and what processes have been developed against the data and functions associated with those applications as well as any data challenges that may exist.
  • Lead and/or participate in requirement gathering and issue resolution meetings with technical and business resources. Be able to create business requirements definition, functional, system design and technical specifications that are detailed, complete and in compliance with Xylem’s IT standards.
  • Use existing or seek out emerging industry practices when solving business problems.
  • Conduct training to IT staff and facilitates and ensures compliance of government or regulatory standards (SOX, PCI, internal audit, external audit, etc.).
  • Accountable and responsible for collaborating with our business-facing teams for Operations across all Xylem’s sites. The ideal candidate will also engage with Supply Chain Leadership and their teams to handle governance, planning, acquisition, development, and delivery of new and existing business applications in ERP.
  • Be a thought leader, helping to drive Xylem’s digital innovation ambitions. Align technology strategies and solutions to business imperatives, optimize the value of our technology investments and govern IT standards and practices across the data, application, integration and infrastructure layers, adding new value for our staff, our business partners, our shareholders and most importantly, our customers.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Doctorate degree and 4 years of Information Systems experience; OR Master’s degree and 8 years of Information Systems experience; or Bachelor’s degree and 10 years of Information Systems experience.
  • IT infrastructure and cloud development.
  • Engineering and software architecture design, Business analysis, Project and product management.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to interact with users of varying levels of technological understanding.
  • Strong technical documentation skills.
  • Possesses good time management skills and has the ability to self-manage support/issue priorities.
  • Ability to prioritize, lead, and direct multi-functional teams to address and solve technical and business issues.

TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE

  • Previous role of Lead Architect in a Global Digital and Data Management environment, preferably SAP S/4HANA, SAP BW, familiarity with IT standards and policies and SOX compliance.
  • 7 or more years of experience in the deploying and supporting of complex solutions using SAP technologies.
  • MS Office, Service Management Tools, Cloud Analytics, SAP BW functional area knowledge, Power BI knowledge and IT service management tool
  • Experience working effectively in a globally dispersed team environment.
  • Leadership and accountability to maintain relationships with peers and customers.
  • Experience in people management, talent development and performance management.
  • Experience in resource and performance management.
  • Management experience in all aspects of an information systems environment.
  • Demonstrable ability to coordinate or lead multiple projects and activities with relevant priorities.
  • Understand service models and prioritization based on impacts on business operations.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

SAP BW, Power BI tool set and Data and Analytics Architecture knowledge.

DAY IN THE LIFE:

In this role, the working environment is generally in an office setting and may be performed remotely. The physical demands may include but are not limited to moving around in an office environment, frequent oral communication, close vision, and ability to operate office equipment. Up to 20% time spent traveling.

SALARY:

The estimated salary range at this professional level is $132,000 to $237,500 plus bonus. Starting pay is dependent on multiple factors, such as skills, experience and work location, and is not typically at the top of the range.
