Job Description

The Director of Group Operational Effectiveness has a passion for enabling highly effective management and leadership processes and driving organizational change. This is a strategic role, working in collaboration with Benefits senior leaders and IT to define strategy and roadmaps to evolve our existing capabilities. This position will be responsible for managing the full life cycle of projects to bring project management and business readiness best practices through people, process and technology. The position will have the opportunity to influence the organization's external and internal customer experience. This position collaborates with the leaders in the Benefits Division to ensure the operational readiness and effectiveness due to technology and process changes. The role requires effective communication and the ability to influence executives, internal users, technology teams and vendors. This position is also integral in leading and/or participating in inter disciplinary strategic projects that will benefit the overall division and enterprise.


  • Responsible for championing a cultural change towards operational excellence, process optimization and management, including training managers and employees. Owns business readiness in partnership with business leaders to implement plans that drive business process and people impact changes (job profiles, organization design and training needs) required to ensure operational effectiveness during and following project delivery. 50%
  • Leads a team, directly, and or indirectly, to mature disciplines of project management, process optimization, business analysis (as it relates to project execution, issue resolution, solution development, etc.) and change management. Continually evaluates and learns new tools, processes and approaches to enhance existing methodologies. 30%
  • Leads the development of a multi-year Benefits Business/IT roadmap, ensuring developing capabilities are in alignment with strategic direction. Researches, analyzes and synthesizes internal metrics, external and internal customer feedback, and industry data and technology innovation and trends to quantify business opportunities and issues to develop strategy and recommendations. Responsible for identifying cross division and enterprise synergy opportunities. 15%
  • Responsible for project governance to prioritize efforts in alignment with strategic direction timelines, resource capacity and budget. Responsible for vendor oversight governance to ensure vendor partners are meeting requirements. 5%

Job Requirements

Education Required:

Bachelor's degree

Minimum Years of Related Work Experience Required:

Ten (10)+ years of experience in financial services, insurance or consulting preferred; open to broader industry experience particularly in operational effectiveness skill set. Extensive experience in managing large, cross functional projects and driving business transformation.

Skills and Abilities Required:

Strong collaboration, facilitation and communications skills. Proven ability to deliver business results by driving operational change and influencing management at all levels through personal interactions. Ability to proactively identify and advocate for areas of opportunity and implement solutions. Comfortable asking tough questions to management at all levels throughout the transformation process. Highly motivated to get the job done right. Superior consulting and advisory skills; ability to think conceptually, handle ambiguity, solve complex problems and make thoughtful recommendations. Ability to implement and drive change, including demonstrated experience and knowledge of change management principles.
