A Brief Summary of This Position:

This position manages the Manufacturing Process Engineering and Quality Assurance department for Global Irrigation. These departments are accountable for planning, organizing, controlling and supervising the activities of the Manufacturing Engineering, 5CC, capital equipment, facilities Equipment Maintenance, tooling and Quality Assurance for the Global Irrigation Division. Provides Manufacturing Engineering support for method improvement and cost reduction to all manufacturing sites. Provides Quality Assurance, 5CC (Core Competencies) support to all manufacturing sites. The candidate will work in close coordination with Operations, Product Engineering, Accounting, Sales & Marketing, Plant Engineering, and Information Services to ensure a cooperative effort in coordinating the manufacturing operations. Candidate must possess the temperament to ensure the lines of communication are strong so as to achieve results through subordinate supervisors. The candidate is responsible for independent decisions and recommendations that are authoritative and have impact of manufacturing and related activities of the company. The candidate is responsible for justifying all expenses for capital and projects as well as be an active participant in sourcing decisions.

Essential Functions:

  • The candidate is responsible for creativity, foresight and judgment in planning, organizing and managing engineering and maintenance programs and activities.
  • Leads the Global Manufacturing Engineering and Quality groups striving for both collaboration and consistency.
  • The ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 20%.
  • Will have previous leadership experience. Must be a driver, but show balance between inspiration and accountability.
  • Must be a team builder with a focus on breaking-down walls and creating transparency in problem solving through cross-functional teams.

Other Important Details about the Role:

  • Demonstrates extensive knowledge of manufacturing processes including welding, galvanizing, stamping, machining, metal fabrication, steel tube fabrication, material handling and tooling.
  • Oversees and improves the global quality platform including customer complaint tracking, follow-up, and countermeasure execution.
  • Primary accountability for voice-of-the-customer (VOC).
  • Leads collaboration on new product design; ensures new products are designed for manufacturability.
  • Leads team to assess and execute automation of process and systems.
  • Focus on automating documentation management to speed the release of new documents and improve quality of document release.
  • Demonstrates competency in Agile and Lean concepts and methodologies.
  • Partner across teams to drive efficiencies.
  • In charge of all capital requests including creating and leading a plan for every site, including international locations.
  • Ensures global standards are upheld (quality, safety, etc…).
  • Key driver of safety in design including completion of and inclusion in risk assessments, management of change documentation, and capital appropriation requests.

Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):

  • Bachelors Degree with 10+ years of relevant experience
  • Two (2) years of supervisory experience in an operations-related engineering function
  • Ability to lead from a Global perspective while extending individual consideration to each location

  • Lean/Agile Certification or proven implementation experience

Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications:

  • Masters Degree in relevant discipline and 10+ years of experience
  • PE (Professional Engineer) certification
  • Experience with working with mechanized irrigation systems
  • Six Sigma Experience
  • The ability to design and conduce DOE (design of experiment)
  • AWS (American Welding Society) certification
  • OSHA 10 hour course

Working Environment and Physical Efforts:

Work is typically performed in a plant or maintenance shop setting. The candidate is regularly required to regularly walk, stand and sit, as well as talk and listen on the phone and in personal conversations or meetings. Environment is fast paced and demanding most of the time. Travel, both domestic and international is a requirement for this position. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms while working in the office with various files and forms and while working on the computer. The employee is occasionally required to move about the office and manufacturing plant. Employee must be able to wear any and all required personal protective equipment (PPE), including but not limited to steel toe, metatarsal boots, safety glasses, and high-visibility vest. Candidate must utilize proper ergonomic safeguards such as monitor height and positions, keyboard location and height and proper wrists rests. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds in working with boxes, parts, large files, binders, and computer equipment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception. This position may require walking, standing, lifting, stooping, bending, climbing stairs, and kneeling in rare instances.
