Primary Job Function:
The Senior Director; Global Learning and development will have the clear mandate to build and lead a highly effective sales training team and contribute to the overall success of Abbott Laboratories Diagnostics global training. This individual is responsible for the creation and execution of a comprehensive and integrated learning strategy across the globe for customer-facing commercial teams.
Core Job Responsibilities:
Responsible for implementing and maintaining the effectiveness of the quality system.
Sets L&D strategy for ADD's Commercial Organization. Influences training policy and develops curriculums for all customer facing jobs.
This position will partner with Area DVPs and Region Managing Directors and GMS; Global Marketing; Sales Leadership to implement a best in class learning curriculum that engages employees and delivers clinical and technical knowledge and skills necessary for success.
The Senior Director Global L&D will ensure a high degree of execution consistency; knowledge retention and effectiveness measured and tracked through carefully designed metrics.
Accountable for the leadership role in the establishment and implementation of L&D Strategy; Educational Design and Adult Learning Techniques in the building of technical and skills training of ADD customer facing teams.
Builds and effectively manage an organization of educators skilled in delivering quality content and effectively facilitate learning and understanding of clinical information; product knowledge; selling and influencing skills as well as training programs customized for identified needs.
Responsible for the establishment and management of a learning curriculum; execution of training; test for proficiency and long–term retention; create and deliver new education programs and ensure consistent - quality content worldwide.
Ensures all educational content and programs are current and have gone through proper legal and regulatory review cycles and ensure all assets are secure; centralized and protected.
Partners with product management and medical science in the development of learning tools to support new product launches.
Execute core Key Performance Drivers related to Sales goals.
Position Accountability / Scope:
This position is responsible for influencing global commercial sales organization of 1700 field sales representatives in 70+ countries. The position will leverage the knowledge and experience of subject matter experts in a matrix organization. It will influence multiple team members across functional; geographical; and divisional boundaries. Budgetary responsibility of 1.4M
Bachelor's degree - MBA preferred.
Minimum Experience / Training Required:
They must possess 10-12 years of related work experience in Sales, Product Marketing, Education and/or Sales/Customer Training in the Healthcare field.
The Head must possess excellent negotiation and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively with peers and leaders globally as well as senior leadership.
Demonstrated success in commercial planning, launching products and product life cycle management.
They must demonstrate strong commercial and business acumen and the ability to develop a business case with return on investment measures.
They must possess strong presentation skills, executive presence, customer relations skills, and proven track record of respect and connections with field organizations.
Excellent verbal and written English communication skills are required. Ideally commercial leadership experiences in a regional/global role or another affiliate.

Strong interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence.
Capability of working autonomously or as part of a team with a ‘sleeves rolled up’ approach and in a collaborative manner; not an empire builder.
