Director, Fleet HR Workforce Management, Deck & Technical

The Director, Fleet HR Workforce Management Nautical and Technical (WFM N/T) is responsible for ensuring that the four brands of Holland America Group hire, retain, and develop the highest quality nautical and technical teams. Working closely with the operational departments within HA Group, the Director WFM D/T drives alignment across our brands to identify, recruit and retain the officers and crew we need to staff our ships into the future. The Director is also responsible for talent assessment, certification and qualification meeting our internal standards and external requirements. This WFM N/T team negotiates and administers labor agreements for seagoing employees on the Holland America Line, Princess Cruises, P&O Cruises Australia and Seabourn Fleet, and plays a key role in the front line engagementwith our team members. As a key member of the Fleet HR leadership team, this position also champions the company’s culture, values, and broader HR vision while partnering with our business leaders to help them build and sustain their organizations.
Leads a global multifunctional team, including several Directors as direct reports, providing strategic leadership and functional management
Oversees all Human Resources scheduling and planning activities related to Nautical and Technical departments
Becomes a valued and reliable partner to HA Group Nautical and Technical teams, fully engaging on all levels
Represents HR as the HA Group Seagoing lead for Carnival Corporation
Oversees team responsible for development and implementation of regulatory and company certification and training requirements as well as competency models for N/T personnel on the Holland America Fleets.
Oversees the control of documents (i.e. certificates) of (embarking) seagoing personnel,
Responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive talent management plan for fleet personnel to ensure uninterrupted staff of the fleet.
Oversees the coordination of Labor Negotiations with our labor partners and ensures planning and contracts conform to the terms and conditions ofemployment for each individual employee
Participates in working with Fleet HR Teams to ensure Global Talent Partners worldwide are providing ship ready officers and crew for deployment and in compliance with company regulations
Collaborates with other members of the Fleet HR team in the full life cycle support and development of seagoing employees
Responsible for responding to fleet emergency situations from an HR perspective and assists accordingly
Participates, creates and executes Fleet Operations and HR policies
Coordinates and participates, with the appropriate departments, in the annual budget process
Reviews and actions HR metrics
Participates in new build planning
Stays informed regarding all (inter)national regulations on crewing requirements and be aware of relevant manning developments, e.g. ILO, Flag Administrations, unions
Bachelor degree required, Master degree preferred
Demonstrated senior leadership experience, preferably in the Maritime and/or Cruise industry
Ability to develop strong trusting relationships in order to gain support and achieve results.
Demonstrated success envisioning, developing, and implementing new strategies to address competitive, complex business issues
Well-developed strategic short/long-term thinking capabilities with a focus on providing excellent customer service while demonstrating planning, organizational, collaboration, communication, interpersonal, problem-solving, and project management skills
Demonstrated success managing teams and multiple functions
Demonstrated commitment to inclusion and removal of barriers to full participation
Ability to demonstrate skill in identifying strategies and approaches to talent acquisition and retention
