DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The New York City Council's Community Engagement Division is seeking to fill the position of Director in the Events and Production Services (E&PS) Unit.
The Community Engagement Division's overarching mission is to engage New Yorkers through civic participation while enhancing their connection with the City Council. The division is principally responsible for facilitating communication and forging relationships between the Speaker's Office, Council Members, and constituents of the City of New York.
The Director will be responsible for managing E&PS staff members and overseeing all functions of the unit. We are seeking a candidate with proven experience in staff management, events planning, demonstrated knowledge of newsletter design and production, and strong interpersonal relationship and management skills.
Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
• Staff Management: Develop goals and metrics. Provide coaching and feedback. Ensure consistent performance and development of staff.
• Design & Production Services Management: Coordinate the design, editing, production, and distribution of Council-issued materials. This includes branding and long-term projects, as well as newsletters, informational brochures, fliers, and reports. Communicate with Council Member offices and other Council stakeholders to ensure collaboration on all E&PS projects. Manage the archive and recordkeeping of all projects in accordance with the Council's record retention policy.
• Event Planning & Execution: Manage events from initial planning to execution of event, including but not limited to: (1.) Event site management (2.) Coordination of onsite security, including Council security, City Hall security, and NYPD. Lead coordination and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders associated with events, including planning meetings.
Demonstrated experience in managing staff in an organized and deadline-driven environment. Excellent and sophisticated communication and interpersonal skills. Proven track record of diplomatic interactions with senior managers, peers, and subordinates. Demonstrated experience in events planning and production services management. Minimum of five years related experience. Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite. Bachelor's degree preferred. Knowledge of New York City Council or similar entities a plus. Multilingual skills a plus. Availability to participate in after hours and/or off-site events and weekends/holidays may be required.
