The Director is expected to establish a strong record of research and engaged scholarship, as well as teach and advise students. In addition, the Director should form collaborations within SEDTAPP’s other vibrant programs ; the College of Engineering; within ENTI and other colleges, institutes, and campuses at Penn State; and partner with other University entities to leverage a broad base of cooperation. The Director will engage with broader University initiatives on entrepreneurship and innovation, such as Invent Penn State , and with resources in the broader community that support a growing entrepreneurial ecosystem. The surrounding environment is very supportive: State College is a robust college town that values entrepreneurship, innovation, and creativity. In 2016, Entrepreneur Magazine named State College as one of the top 10 entrepreneurial cities in the U.S. Its location in central Pennsylvania combines a good environment for families and professionals with easy accessibility to NYC, Washington, DC, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, and other metropolitan areas in the Northeast.

Successful candidates will have demonstrated success in venture creation, start-ups, and/or product launch of technology-based ventures. Successful candidates should have a demonstrated ability to seek and secure external funding. The Director will collaborate with development offices to raise funds that will be critical to the success and continued growth of the program.

Candidates should have an established research agenda and demonstrated record collaborating across institutional boundaries and working with students, faculty, staff, and community leaders. Additionally, candidates should possess superior communication skills and have demonstrated experience in teaching and engaging students in curricular and co-curricular learning and activities.

The Director position is a non-tenure track, multi-year fixed-term appointment. While an earned Ph.D. or equivalent in engineering or closely related field is preferred, applications from exceptional candidates with an M.S. or equivalent will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Salary and academic title will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
