The position is responsible for all aspects of the diagnostic imaging services programs. Clinical and administrative responsibilities include the management of hospital based and satellite services including the echocardiology, diagnostic non-invasive cardiology, diagnostic radiology, radiology administrative services, satellite MRI, ultrasound, nuclear medicine, CT Scan, MRI and the Breast Care Center.  The Director Diagnostic Imaging Services and Breast Care Center determines the vision, strategy, and tactical plans for all programs that are developed and managed within the areas of responsibility for the program. This role provides operations management to ensure accomplishment of objectives. Participates in business and physician partnering strategies. Collaborates with Senior Management, Medical Directors, Strategic Communications, and other key stakeholders to plan, organize, and manage the administrative and technical activities of the diagnostic imaging programs and breast care center.  Meets appropriate regulatory standards and ensures adherence to organizational policies and procedures for managing personnel, resources, supplies, and equipment.  The Director will be expected to present findings and recommendations to clinical leadership, the COO/CNO, and the Systems Vice President of Cardiology and Radiology for the Steward System.  This position is a key component in identifying the present and future needs of the clinical cardiovascular and imaging services and reporting these findings.


• Resource Allocation:  Prepares operating budget, manages and controls expense targets, where applicable revenue projections.  Conserves organizational resources by maximizing departmental performance as well as developing and implementing cost saving measures.  Manages and utilizes personnel effectively to achieve proper staffing and optimum resource management.  Monitors turnover, overtime, and absenteeism.  Understands financial statements; develops and operates within budgetary guidelines; is able to justify variances.  Oversees daily patient flow, patient registration, patient scheduling, patient order entries, patient results reporting and image archival.  Utilizes objective metrics to establish department performance improvement goals, and creates improvement on all outcomes. Oversee grant writing and development activities. Develops opportunities to enhance revenues.  Oversees planning, preparing, implementing, and monitoring all capital budgets. Reports any unsafe conditions, inoperative equipment or other adverse conditions to the appropriate department.

• Performance Improvement:  Assures quality of clinical services through quality control and performance improvement processes that meet standards established by Joint Commission, DPH, the DPH Radiation Control Program, and the American College of Radiology (ACR).   Assists the Radiation Safety Officer in the implementation of department specific Radiation Safety Programs and hospital wide Radiation Safety.  Ensures adherence to the DPH Radiation Control Program ALARA Guidelines.  Responds to Federal, State, and local inspections in order to remain in compliance with acceptable standards.   Is responsible for compliance with appropriate external regulatory requirements including Joint Commission, CMS, HIPPA, and the DPH Radiation Control Program.   Continuously maintains regulatory readiness in department.   Supports performance improvement processes and encourages participation by staff through the use of analytical and reporting tools.   Participates in and manages performance improvement initiatives in own and other areas.   Upholds the mission and philosophy of Saint Anne's Hospital and Steward Health Care System and holds employees accountable for the same.  Analyzes data and prepares quality reports on annual external beam data and materials classified under the Radioactive Materials License as administered by the DPH Radiation Control Program.
• Forecasting and Planning:  Develops a process that allows for and creates meaningful dialogue with physicians regarding operational and strategic decisions and planning.   Assures seamless delivery of services across the system and care continuum.    Coordinates facility development for services integral to each responsible modality and program.  Develops business plans for new services. Collaborates with representatives from Strategic Communications in the development and implementation of annual communications and marketing plans.  Evaluates new products and equipment and forwards recommendations for purchase based upon research.  Ensures that services address patient, family, and referring community needs as well as being easily accessible.  Prepares the annual budget for responsible areas to include volume projections, departmental expenses, salaries, FTEs as well as capital equipment.
• Personal Commitment:  Maintains clinical competencies and strives to keep current with new technology and concepts in area of responsibility.   Maintains competencies necessary to provide direct care or service to the age of patients served in assigned service area, if applicable.   Completes annual mandatory education requirements and participates in appropriate hospital management training and development workshops.  Continually learns and develops staff and self; keeps current in trends; participates in professional development opportunities and encourage staff participation; Develops and implements a department specific education plan.

Serves as internal consultant for internal departments and external organizations regarding diagnostic cardiology and radiology management and care delivery inclusive of all aspects of vascular services.  Collaborates with key internal and external leaders to identify strategic and tactical market opportunities utilizing market research.

• Education:  Bachelor's Degree in a healthcare science required. Master's degree in business or management is preferred.   Requires strong business acumen with an ability to translate goals into actions. 
• Experience:  5 years of professional work experience in a clinical specialty or clinical ancillary service is required.  Experience includes supervisory/management in a healthcare-related field.   Minimum work experience of one to three years of supervisory and/or management experience required.
 Certification/Licensure:  RN  or Registered Radiologic Technologist (RRT)
• Software/Hardware: Meditech, Microsoft applications, PACS, RAD Ware, McKesson CPACS, WIT
• Other:  Requires effective use of problem solving, negotiating, conflict management, team leading and teambuilding skills.
