Principal Accountabilities

This position is responsible for significant activity in the IHS Markit Power, Gas, Coal and Renewables business. Responsible for managing the six main pillars, primarily within North American coal, but also related natural gas, power and renewables:

  • GROWTH: Includes sales enablement, financial/expense management, revenue and customer growth.
  • portfolio/delivery management: Responsible for maintaining practice direction and thought leadership in North American coal, as well as developing new insight, analytics, and data products to create new revenue streams. A primary focus is on steering the range of products towards a mix that most optimally meets customer needs, while being deliverable in a time-efficient fashion.
  • CONSULTING: Able to both sell and deliver coal consulting as an individual and managing project teams of junior staff.
  • PAID PRESENTATIONS: Can deliver compelling board/executive level presentations, and can create insights to drive demand for these presentations.
  • PEOPLE MANAGEMENT: Sources and develops strong talent pool and effectively leads and develops subordinates, both direct-reports and others within the power, gas, coal and renewables teams. Typically manages individual contributors as well as research and consulting team leads.
  • COLLABORATION: Effectively collaborates with peers to successfully grow their segment.

Maintains strong customer references. May serve as advisor/contributor for more complex engagements. Works closely with other product managers within the segment (content, software and insight) as well as commercialization lead to identify white space investment opportunities that help differentiate and grow the overall market segment.

Scope

  • Subject matter expert on North American Coal, including its role within the Global Coal markets, and covering both thermal and metallurgical coal. While coal focused, this role also requires extensive work with the North American natural gas team, and also with the North American Power & Renewables team. Direct responsibility for maintaining North American Coal deliverables in conjunction with other IHS Markit colleagues, while contributing to other deliverables within the Global Coal, North American Power and North American Natural Gas content streams.
  • Frequently interacts with senior management and/or functional peer groups and managers.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a significant number of complex projects and/or direct reports simultaneously.
  • Extensive understanding of customer needs, and direction and changes needed to best meet them.
  • Responsible for budget recommendations and for identifying paths of organic (hiring), and inorganic (acquisition) revenue growth. Maintain rigorous fiscal responsibility through budgeting, forecasting and managing expenses.
  • Able to integrate information from professional or technical fields with diverse external and internal sources to develop critical business strategies and tactical plans to drive results.
  • Proactive leadership experience to maximize organizational and colleague effectiveness through improving engagement and skill sets of team members.
  • Effective and timely communication with both internal and external customers around business metrics, collaboration and information quality.

General Knowledge and Skills

  • Expert level of knowledge of customer workflows in coal, and ideally also natural gas, power and renewables.
  • Able to build and defend a well-constructed business case.
  • Advanced ability to manage multiple demands and priorities in a matrix organization and to devise strategies which increase revenue and Customer Delight metrics.
  • Highly articulate with ability to converse and present coherently the value proposition of the product/workflow solutions to customers and senior management.
  • Demonstrated excellent written communications skills, including ability to independently write or edit customer-facing or external communications.
  • Ability to manage coal, natural gas, and power models, in conjunction with other IHS Markit employees.
  • Personality and confidence to build strong relationships at all levels internally and externally and to keep all stakeholders informed of plans and progress.
