Position Summary:

The Director of Craft Recruiting will design & execute recruiting operations nationally & lead our Craft recruiting team. This role will build out and lead a 5-10-person talent acquisition team responsible for recruiting skilled craft professionals across McCarthy’s nonunion markets. This is a new role, dedicated to ensuring McCarthy can deliver the Craft professional workforce resources to deliver safe, quality & productive projects to our clients. The successful individual will drive a high-volume recruiting function & successfully manage a program that finds & screens skilled trades talent. Will fill a variety of roles against aggressive timelines. Will partner with McCarthy’s shared Craft initiatives to develop a network of the best Craft talent with in-demand skills & experiences in key markets. This role will partner closely with regional & national HR leadership teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manages a team of Craft recruiters, likely to be based in Phoenix, Dallas & Houston
  • Collaborates with Operations leaders to determine workforce planning needs & expectations
  • Accountable for overall Craft recruiting effectiveness
  • Drives continuous improvement & management of Craft recruiting systems & processes
  • Coaches hiring managers on supply & demand of Craft workforce
  • Analyzes ROI of tools & vendors
  • Negotiates & approves contracts with third party labor vendors
  • Trains new team members & hiring managers on proper utilization & management of requisitions within ATS
  • Maintains knowledge of employment laws to ensure compliance across the business
  • Partners with & manages McCarthy’s National Outreach Manager, who leads community & workforce outreach development efforts
  • Develops & implements hyper-local recruiting strategies near project locations
  • Will develop working knowledge of contracts, scheduling & Craft compensation rates to project manpower requirements for each site
  • Partners with compensation analysts to conduct in-depth research on wages, housing & fringe benefits as needed


  • Bachelor’s Degree required in relevant field of study
  • 5+ years of experience overseeing a diverse team of centralized and remote recruiting professionals
  • 10+ years of high-volume recruiting experience, constructionexperiencepreferred
  • Experience designing recruiting operations to match business needs—leveraging a blended approach of centralized, decentralized and onsite staff
  • Advanced knowledge of creative sourcing & screening methods
  • Solid depth of expertise in sourcing strategies, applicant tracking systems
  • Bilingual (Spanish) capability strongly preferred
  • Human Resources knowledge such as EEOC, FLSA, diversity recruiting, interview best practices
  • Ability to track, report & translate complex staffing data to key stakeholders across the organization
  • Demonstrated ability to build trust-based relationships with employees & managers at all levels including executive team
  • Strong verbal & written communication skills. Solid platform skills

  • Ability to balance multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work individually & in a team environment
  • Ability to implement & evaluate the right technologies & systems to find & attract a mobile Craft workforce
