Assist with legal and regulatory matters involving insurance carrier operations by providing legal advice and services to Product Development and Marketing, Underwriting, Claims, and Actuarial departments. Externally, this position interacts with attorneys representing the Company, opposing counsel, judges, Guardian agents and brokers, peers in the insurance industry, trade associations, policy owners, vendors and state insurance department personnel.




*** Provide strategic and effective case management and budget discipline on pending litigation.


*** Serve as Company representative at mediations and trials to negotiate and resolve disputes.


*** Develop risk mitigation and litigation avoidance strategies to limit future exposure.


*** Provide advice and counsel to all departments on a variety of legal and business issues including product development, reinsurance matters, claims counseling, transactional work, privacy, document retention, product implementation and administration, customer disputes and compliance matters.


*** Serve as primary law department liaison for disability income claims area.


*** Serve on corporate level teams and ad hoc committees in matters of strategy and risk management.


*** Conduct proactive client trainings on legal issues and updates.
