The Role: Roku is the most used streaming platform in the U.S. The Director of Corporate Communications will develop and drive the company’s corporate communications strategies that tell the Roku corporate story and garner mindshare among media and investors. This is a hands-on role and will involve personal leadership and implementation of communications approaches. The role will report to the Vice President of Communications, and is located in the Los Gatos office.

 Responsibilities: 

  • Work with the VP of Communications to evolve and promote the corporate narrative working with key stakeholders across the business
  • Develop and execute the corporate communications plan with a heavy focus on PR initiatives to drive visibility around Roku’s leadership position in OTT and business focus on content distribution and advertising
  • Drive awareness for Roku’s business practices through proactive story placement in media outlets
  • Place Roku at keynotes and other positions at high-level industry events
  • Identify key milestones and other news making opportunities and determine strategies to elevate them
  • Oversee executive thought leadership campaigns including placing executive profiles, bylines and high-level speaker placements
  • Lead media strategy around quarterly earnings and financial announcements
  • Develop strong and trusted relationships with members of the senior leadership team and act as counsel for PR related manners
  • Prep key spokespeople for media interviews and speaking opportunities
  • Steer company's news agenda and calendar, working with other members of Communications team
  • Produce key messages, press releases, one pagers, presentations/keynotes, Q&As, case studies, thought leadership pieces, bylined articles, executive briefing materials, and other communications assets
  • Collaborate closely with other members of the Communications team for a highly collaborative and effective corporate PR plan
  • Act as an effective company spokesperson with press as needed
  • Develop crisis communications plan and guide external communications around unplanned issues affecting the company 

Experience/Qualifications:  

  • 10-15 years of PR experience (ideally a combination in-house and PR firm) with significant portion of time spent focused on corporate communications ideally in media, consumer tech, advertising or other related industries at a mid-to-large size public company
  • Strong roster of relationships with the business and financial media
  • Experience working at a public company is required
  • Ability to foster strong relationships with key executives and act as counsel in corporate PR matters
  • Deep understanding of TV landscape, from an industry, marketer, consumer and publisher perspective. Able tounderstand, analyze and build narratives around the major trends and developments in the industry
  • Passion for the transition of traditional TV to OTT
  • Track record of helping a business seize mindshare in a competitive marketplace
  • Business development mindset where communications directly contributes to business growth
  • Positive and collaborative personality; a commitment to ensuring all activities undertaken are as successful as possible
  • Excellent communications skills and stellar writer who knows AP style well
  • Good judgment and calm composure particularly in high pressure times
  • Trustworthy and able to keep highly sensitive information confidential
  • Able to independently structure and manage workflow and priorities
  • Crisis communications experience is desirable
  • College degree
