Job Description

The Director of Clinical Programs will ensure alignment of product value propositions, project/program scope, and strategic business objectives for all projects within the Clinical Platform. The Director monitors and improves the performance of all active projects under the Clinical platform, working with the PMO Support Groups and the Core Team Leaders to drive the right rigor in planning, execution and governance. This position reports directly to the Head of the PMO.

Key Job Responsibilities:

Project Performance and Develop of Staff and Resourcing (70% of time):

  • Responsible for the coordinated management of the overall Clinical Platform project pipeline in alignment with overall business goals.

  • Tracks and reports on project performance for the platform, providing a real time comprehensive and prioritized view of all projects.

  • Responsible for providing critical information for coordinating the allocation optimization and sharing of resources among constituent programs/projects to benefit the Platform.

  • Contributes to overall profitability of the platform by monitoring overall pipeline performance against commitments (contract, business cases) and identifying risk to ASR/platform commitments based on project risks.

  • Supports teams to prepare for phase gate and other go/no-go decisions by executive leadership, ensuring that decisions are informed by a balanced and clearly articulated representation of the relevant data.

  • Monitors project overhead and capital expenses to ensure achievement of cost efficiency and takes action to correct any adverse variances across platform projects.

  • Ensure business and technical lessons learned are disseminated, reviewed and applied where appropriate

  • In conjunction with CTLs and functional managers, develops a staffing and development plan across all platform projects to ensure appropriate resourcing for projects.

  • Provides direction, mentoring/coaching, and leadership to the CTLs.

Cross-Functional Stakeholder Management (30% of time):

  • Partners with platform management to understand future strategy and priorities

  • Communicates project/program updates to platform management team

  • Works with the CTLs to assess cross-functional project team capability and defines specific improvement actions and training needs to improve collaborative development and project results. Partners with functional leaders in assessing and developing Core Team talent.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree with significant business and project leadership experience in life sciences.

  • Demonstrated success in leading product development projects from initiation through commercialization.

  • Minimum of 7-10 years of progressive project management experience.

  • Must be able to translate project decisions to financial implications.

  • PMP Certification or equivalent is a plus.
