Position Summary -

The Director of the Center of Professional Learning for the College of Health Professions is responsible for developing a strategy for programs, products, and services within the Center for Professional Learning. The Director will lead the creation, design, and implementation for continuous education products, non-degree programs, and credentials within the College of Health Professions.

Key duties include market analysis, research, and market testing. As the Director of Professional Learning, you will be guiding the Universities in making informed decisions when selecting courses, programs, and credentials to offer or create. You'll network and collaborate with industry leaders in the health professions to understand their employment needs and then direct the efforts in creating educational programs that will prepare employees to successfully bridge these skill gap(s). You'll direct the efforts of Subject Matter Experts who will create certificate programs, continuous education credits, credentials, and programs that satisfy the needs of both employers and accrediting bodies. You'll be instrumental in directing your team's efforts that continuously improve the re-development of all non-degree programs. You will also lead your team in creating new programs, credentials, and certificates that may not even exist in the industry today.

We are looking for a Director who will champion our promise in helping students achieve their dreams. You'll be networking and collaborating with many internal and external stakeholders to create student-focused programs that are meaningful to both employers and students. While keeping a priority on the students you will direct the creation of programs that open pathways for future learning and professional development. You'll lead the efforts in creating pathway programs and certificates that students can use to apply for other traditional degree programs. For example, your team will create pathway programs where students could earn their Medical Assisting certificate and then receive credits that can be applied to traditional bachelors in nursing degree.

The Director of Continous Learning will need the heart and passion of an entrepreneur. You'll be directing the entire process and lifecycle that includes market research, program selection, program creating, accreditation, marketing, advertising, and evaluation. Each non-degree program will be unique and it will require you to create out of the box solutions. You'll direct your team to achieve the faculty quality and sufficiency for programs that require faculty. You'll also monitor and measure each program to achieve student performance standards. WGU is a non-profit organization and our goal is to create quality student-focused programs that deliver incredible value while being financially viable.

Required Education and Experience


  • Masters degree in Health related specialty or Business Administration
  • Background in educational leadership
  • Terminal degree (Ph.D., DNP, DHSc, DBA) preferred

Required Skills


  • Five or more years of senior management experience in market analysis and product development
  • Solid, hands-on, budget management skills, including budget preparation, analysis, decision-making, and execution
  • A sustained history of success in program development, program quality, and sustainability
  • Convey a vision of the strategic future to stakeholders and engage them in brand development
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to oversee and collaborate with staff
  • Strong public speaking ability

Preferred Qualifications

Prior experience in continuing education, development or marketing of certifications or industry-based professional development programs at scale.

Prior experience in a non-profit start-up environment preferred.
