We are seeking a strategic and experienced Brand Design Director to spearhead the evolution of Fastly’s visual brand identity and lead the design and production functions. In this role, you will be responsible for building and executing against the evolving Fastly brand. You will be the creative business partner to a variety of stakeholders across the company, tasked with bringing visual and design creativity to market in a way that advances our brand, demand, and culture initiatives. You will lead a team of creatives, providing our designers with the support they need to dream up and deliver outstanding work, with an eye toward operational efficiency and outstanding communication.
You are a skilled conceptual storyteller with a knack for distilling the complex, thinking holistically, and leading through influence, mentorship, and enablement.
What You'll Do
- Lead and encourage a Brand Design team of hardworking in-house and contract creatives, providing high quality, actionable feedback.
- Serve as a strategic partner to internal partners and executive leadership, making brand and design thinking part of the strategic process.
- Drive the strategy for evolving Fastly’s visual identity and the accompanying visual systems that define our brand.
- Set brand design vision and team goals.
- Partner in the creation of global brand assets across a range of media including web, digital, print, and video.
- Define and run creative workflows that result in high-quality, timely deliverables; prioritize and assign all design tasks.
- Set and uphold the bar for high quality, insightful, and differentiating design work.
- Select and manage key strategic design partners who can help us grow and expand our brand visually and through creative execution. Help lead and creative direct our external agencies, keeping large-scale projects on track.
- Partner with the Content and UX teams to build an authentic, consistent experience across all channels, for practitioner and executive audiences.
- Drive internal enablement and positive awareness of design trends, brand standards and processes, through a design culture of open collaboration, accessibility, and knowledge sharing.
What We're Looking For
- Experience: 10+ years creative design experience (at least 6 years leadership experience) with a portfolio demonstrating visual design and branding excellence, as well as proficiency in end-to-end, customer-focused design processes (portfolio link required).
- Brand expertise: Deep knowledge of all aspects of brand identity, including typography, iconography, illustration, visual language and messaging.
- Mentality: You are business leader and creative director in equal parts.
- Leadership: You negotiate conflict and difficult decisions with courage and grace, bring tact and compassion to tough discussions, and encourage effective, positive cross-functional collaboration. You are an operational problem solver who can translate company goals into an effective system for prioritization of design tasks.
