The Director of Patient Care Services, is responsible for the day to day planning, organizing, directing, and monitoring patient care for assigned Nursing units. In collaboration with the CNO, the Director is responsible for strategic planning for the areas of assigned nursing service in support of the health system's Mission and Vision: developing long term and short term goals and objectives; facilities development; equipment evaluation and selection; personnel selection; assignment, development, and evaluation; other resource allocation; and customer relations.

The Director is responsible for ensuring alliance standards of care and policies are consistently observed, and for the development and implementation of appropriate departmental and population specific policies and procedures. This individual will support shared leadership councils (Practice, Best, Performance Improvement and Resource) ensure that one standard of care is given in areas of responsibility.
The Director is accountable for compliance with all pertinent JCAHO Standards, and with local, state, and federal regulations. As an integral part of the facility management team, the Director is required to participate in the hospital's Quality and Value Optimization System and to cooperate with interdepartmental projects to improve quality of service and reduce cost.

The Director is accountable for practicing fiscal responsibility by developing realistic annual operating and capital budgets, conserving resources, and monitoring expenditures to ensure they remain within budgeted parameters. This position is responsible for oversight of front line clinical leadership to flex staffing to meet patient needs and comply with established productivity standards. The Director will ensure departmental facilities and equipment are regularly inspected and maintained in optimum operating condition.

This position is responsible for maintaining the qualified and competent staff needed to provide quality service and for monitoring the activities of reporting managers and supervisors to ensure that ongoing educational opportunities, including attendance at organization-wide programs, are provided and that team members are treated with dignity, fairness, and consistency, within the guidelines set forth in MSHA Human Resource Policies and Procedures. The Director is accountable for maintaining harmonious interactions between departmental team members and their customers, including patients, family members, visitors, physicians, clergy, other system employees, and the general public. The incumbent must ensure departmental team members know and understand the MSHA Mission and Vision, and uphold its values. The Director is expected to set an example for all team members of commitment and loyalty to MSHA by openly supporting and participating in organizational projects and events.
The Director is accountable for maintaining technical expertise and for development of leadership skills through ongoing education. The incumbent is expected to lend technical assistance and act in a consultant role to network healthcare providers. The Director must be self-motivated and serve as a strong team leader and coach.

The Director will lead in a way to promote front line problem solving and empowering a healthy workplace consistent with established standards. The Director will promote empowerment of team members through supporting them to assume responsibility and accountability within their scope of practice, and through facilitating self-directed work groups that develop within the Division.

As appropriate for their facility, the Director will support the ANCC Magnet certification process in all departments of responsibility through implementation of the forces of magnetism in daily practice.

MSHA expects all team members to support the VOS initiative by demonstrating awareness of the VOS system and effectively applying it to his/her work.

Job duties of this position may require access to protected patient information (PHI). The team member will be accountable for appropriate use of the record and compliance with all confidentiality and security policy and procedures related to use, access, and disclosure of PHI.

The Director of Patient Services will report directly to the VP and/or facility CNO with a possible matrix reporting relationship to respective areas.

The Director will possess a Master's degree in Nursing or related field. Graduate of an accredited school of nursing and currently licensed to practice as a Professional Nurse in the appropriate state. The position requires a minimum of five years of progressively responsibleexperience in healthcare. Must demonstrate the following knowledge, skills and abilities:

The Director will be required to update technical expertise and to develop management/leadership skills through continuing education.
