Under general direction develops organizes implements and directs all Data Center activities to entire Lifespan Corporation including physical security physical environment backups storage disaster preparedness data base administration system programming production control technical support provision of all hosts servers and other equipment needed for the delivery of high availability systems to end-users. Such systems are used in the delivery of healthcare and must be maintained reliably to a very high level of uptime and response time. The position requires team participation in the development and control of all Lifespan Data Centers Local Area Networks Wide Area Networks Telecommunications and facility infrastructure.
Maintains awareness of changes and trends in computer and systems technology in order to provide interpretation and recommendations to senior management. Participates in business planning through knowledge of and future vision of technology and systems as related to Lifespan�s competitive position. Participates in development of long and short-term goals for effective operations of information services and related care delivery systems for Lifespan. Participates with Vice President in developing strategy for information needs systems development and hardware acquisition and integration. Ensures information services goals are consistent with Lifespan�s goals and strategic objectives and that they meet or exceed customer needs and expectations; ensures customer satisfaction is maintained and enhanced. Develops and implements related policies and procedures to ensure effective operation of information services. Establishes standards for high quality work communicates expectations to staff evaluates effectiveness of policies and procedures and regularly prepares related reports on quality indicator.
Interviews hires orients assigns work to supervisory professional technical and support staff. Conducts evaluations of staff and prepares performance standards and development plans for subordinate staff. Ensures teamwork is promoted and enhanced through participative problem solving and decision-making processes in the department�s operations planning decision-making and team-based delivery of information services. Develops and enhances customer orientation and technical and managerial skills of staff.
Contributes to the effective management of Lifespan by providing leadership for information management throughout the organization and by participating in Quality Management endeavors.
Participates with senior management in assessing and prioritizing Lifespan�s short term and long term information services needs developing related plans goals and objectives for information services to produce operational improvements in all Lifespan departments.
Provides for the maintenance of computer hardware communications equipment and software in functional order at all times.
Directs work related to the functions within the information services critical processes of human resource management and enterprise data center services. Such activities include but are not limited to data center system availability 24 hours per day seven days per week; preventative maintenance schedules; disaster recovery testing and preparedness; system upgrades for all data center devices including: hosts servers controllers disk drives tape systems switches hubs fiber and other cabling electricity cooling UPS and all other Data Center equipment; maintain adequate inventories and supplies.
Organizes and manages operational and project oriented activities through appropriate delegation project planning task prioritization and standard methodologies. Responsible for delivering Information Technology solutions across the continuum of care including in-house and affiliated clinics Lifespan hospitals and affiliated providers. Develops and promotes timely and appropriate communication within IS and throughout the institution to communicate work plans accomplishments issues status of deliverables and barriers to completion.
Negotiates and manages contracts with vendors of hardware and software services ensuring contracted services are provide in accordance with negotiated terms and that delivery commitments are met or exceeded.
Reviews and analyzes new hardware options communication and software advances in the marketplace; recommends selection of same in consideration of Lifespan�s customer needs and budgetary limitations.
Develops prepares and obtains approval for the operating and capital budget for area of responsibility. Manages expenses incurred regularly reviews monthly reports investigates and resolves variances and reports on same.
Participates in ongoing independent study education-related professional activities and affiliations maintaining the advanced practitioner�s level of knowledge of cutting edge developments in information services and related systems integration.
Provides management and professional leadership in the development and implementation of Information Services major operating priorities. Participates in or leads various committees task forces and quality improvement teams as needed.
Equivalent to Bachelor�s degree level of knowledge in computer sciences or related field including knowledge of state of the art data center best practices.
Seven or more years experience in progressively more responsible information services management roles; such experience should represent a similarly diverse and operationally complex organization.
Experience in managing complex data center services in a regional environment is preferred.
Supervisory responsibility for up to 30 FTEs.
