Job Description

Essential Functions/Duties:

  • Lead and actively contribute to all innovation, research, and development activities related to equipment and technology. Hands-on technical leadership of design and execution.
  • Apply sound scientific methods to investigate, understand, and develop practical equipment inventions and modifications for magnet wire production process.
  • Stay abreast of the latest technology and developments for equipment and processes in the industry while driving internal innovation aimed at providing Essex with world-class manufacturing technology and cost platform while continuing to improve quality levels.
  • Interface with innovation team to provide knowledge and develop technology and processes for the introduction and evaluation of new/modified equipment and processes. Responsible for development and implementation of equipment and processes to meet or exceed the requirements of current and future customer applications.
  • Responsible for the development, planning and direction of a variety of projects and activities, locally, regionally and globally. This position will be recognized as the technical expert on magnet wire production equipment and processes.
  • Stay abreast of the latest technology and developments for equipment and processes in the industry while driving internal innovation aimed at providing Essex with world-class manufacturing technology and cost platform while continuing to improve quality levels.
  • Champion an innovation environment and culture.
  • Make certain that the proper resources and skill levels are developed and/or acquired to execute and support the activities of the innovation team.
  • This position is a critical element of the leadership team.

 

 

REQUIRED knowledge/skills/abilities and other minimum qualifications:

  1. BS in Engineering with 10-yrs experience in managing technical resources with proven ability in completing projects on-time while delivering the desired results.
  2. 5-yrs in a research and development environment.
  3. Successful candidate must be able to demonstrate a sense of urgency, resolve conflict in a tactful manner, be a highly active participant of the leadership team, and be decisive.
  4. Possess the ability to delegate responsibility along with accountability. Must be detail oriented with the demonstrated ability to effectively communicate across all levels of an organization.
  5. Demonstrated leadership ability.
  6. Possess a proven understanding of continuous manufacturing processes and of at least two of the following areas: machine design, extrusion technology, or thermoset insulation technology.
  7. Possess demonstrated ability with analytical skills: methodically investigate problems, organize logical experimental trials, document data, and present results.
  8. Possess "hands-on" experience with equipment evaluation and process experimentation.
  9. Travel up to 15% required
  10. Strong PC skills required
    1. Strong statistical background.
    2. Demonstrated experience with project management / stage gate methodology

 

Additional Qualifications

  1. Masters or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science, Materials Science or related field preferred.
  2. Solidworks 3D software knowledge preferred.
  3. Ansys or similar computer aided engineering software knowledge preferred

Certification or proven practical experience with Design for Lean Six Sigma
