Thornton Tomasetti, Inc., is seeking qualified candidates to fill a full-time position as firm-wide Director of Digital Design in our New York office.  As Director of Digital Design, reporting directly to our CIO and CTO, you and your team of 2-3 staff will oversee; development, implementation, and management of digital design tools, methods and strategies, and guide the efforts of hundreds of practitioners around the company.  You will be enabled to find creative opportunities to help achieve Thornton Tomasetti’s BHAG: “To be the global driver of change and innovation within our industry.” 

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership & Strategy

  • Work with CIO, CTO, and practice leaders to maintain leading-edge BIM strategies
  • Liaise with CIO, CTO, and CORE|studio in research and development of internal and marketed digital design solutions
  • Help foster awareness of TT’s global capabilities in BIM and digital delivery
  • Create and participate in industry presentations, talks, and publications
  • Assist leaders with career path development for BIM staff
  • Maintain strategic relationships with software vendors to help drive value


  • Oversee training for BIM and engineering staff in best use of BIM tools
  • Work with regional and office BIM Managers to oversee quality control and use of modeling standards in each practice area
  • Coordinate monthly user group meetings to disseminate knowledge of best practices and to help bridge communication gaps between global projects teams
  • Keep up with industry technology developments to make sure TT is using the best tools in the best ways possible
  • Work with BIM Leadership to create metrics on BIM use, maturity, and quality
  • Assess BIM-related contracts to evaluate and minimize risk to TT
  • Manage licensing needs for digital design software


  • Manage level 1 and level 2 support for digital design tools
  • Oversee development and deployment of custom software setups
  • Lead testing and deployment of new BIM software versions and updates
  • IT liaison for hardware compatibility of digital design tools and systems
  • Assist with solving complex technology issues pertaining to BIM and BIM projects

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • 10+ years’ experience in AEC industry, focused in BIM
  • 5+ years’ experience in leading teams in a BIM Manager (or equal) role
  • Bachelor’s degree in AEC field, graduate degreepreferred
  • Advanced knowledge of Autodesk AEC tools, with focus in Revit and AutoCAD
  • Advanced understanding of design processes and project delivery methods using digital design
  • Knowledge of typical IT systems, IT certifications a plus
  • Scripting and automation
  • Excellent in written and verbal communication
  • Excellent in customer service
