DEVOPS Practice Lead

The Practice Lead is a senior level position that leverages deep DevOps expertise to support our national practice. The Practice Lead supports activities related to practice management, client delivery, and business development. The Practice Lead actively manages an entire engagement from pre-sales support to post-sales implementation. This includes developing materials to explain DevOps concepts to potential clients, developing statements of work, and executing on those statements of work. The Practice Lead works with clients to establish DevOps goals, assess current state, develop transformational roadmaps, then lead the organization through DevOps changes.  The Practice Lead is an industry leading expert on DevOps principles and practices, leads the implementation of lean software development approaches, understands a broad classes of DevOps automation tools, and leading organizations through transformational change.

Key ResponsibilitiesDomain Expertise

  • Must have experience leading DevOps transformations across the enterprise
  • Ability to articulate and "sell" DevOps solutions to executive and non-executive business users
  • Ability to plan and lead DevOps transformations across the business, development, IT operations, infrastructure, QA, and security teams
  • Understand and ability to manage organizational cultural change
  • Broad based expert knowledge of market leading DevOps tools
  • Provide deep understanding and thought leadership of DevOps frameworks, tools and how to apply them in highly varied client environments.
  • Experience with infrastructure as code, container tools, cloud tools, and other Ci/CD DevOps tools, non-inclusive examples: TerraForm, CloudFoundry, Puppet, Chef, Ansible, Jenkins, Docker, etc?
  • Understanding of future trends within DevOps and the ability to articulate these considerations to clients.

Practice Management

  • Connect local resources with national expertise and resources
  • Drive thought leadership across the business units and practice team members
  • Contribute to the practice body of knowledge (skills, knowledge, case studies, etc...)
  • Actively participate in national practice initiatives and events
  • Ensure operational administration is completed accurately and timely by entire team
  • Develop and consolidate all understanding in support of building out practice
  • Assist in identifying candidates and building local delivery teams
  • Ability to speak or write about practice related items
  • Develop and mentor junior resources along a path to DevOps understanding and maturity

Business Development

  • Demonstrated ability to understand the business problem and translate that into the utilization of DevOps solutions to solve those business problems
  • Work to educate business units and clients on practice capabilities
  • Ability to help Business Unit lead qualify potential DevOps opportunities
  • Ability to sell consultative solutions with an understanding of how DevOps fits into larger business solutions
  • Consistently listen actively for opportunities in business units and clients to leverage practice capabilities
  • Ability to creatively develop DevOps solutions based on limited information
  • Support and participate in the development of the practice sales/marketing plan - maintain pipeline, forecast, identify targets, perform account planning
  • Support local sales process with approved practice marketing and sales material
  • Lead in proposal creation involving practice capabilities including scoping, estimating, and drafting statements of work
  • Ability to attend sales meetings independently and support the sales process while actively marketing practice capabilities
  • Actively involved in local community involving practice related capabilities (e.g., user groups)
  • Support all aspects of consulting sales process including marketing materials, statements of work/proposals, and client meetings. Must understand basic sales lifecycle and be able to support sales-based conversations with clients.

Client Delivery

  • Develop relationships to become a trusted advisor to our clients
  • Provide delivery excellence/oversight of local practiced related engagements
  • Perform key practice area delivery roles including: aligning IT and business strategy, developing/implementing DevOps roadmap, leading DevOps transformations, providing DevOps program management leadership, leading DevOps tool selection processes, and leading cross-functional tool engineering teams
  • Provide approaches, roadmaps, resource and budget estimates in support of delivering envisioned work
  • Participate in recruiting, interviewing, and staffing client engagements
  • Identify and escalate new opportunities for DevOps or other offerings while delivering project solutions

  • Able to work in high-profile, potentially stressful customer environment
  • Able to communicate to technical & non-technical audience
  • Demonstrated success working in a consulting environment
  • Build deep relationships and networks within the DevOps community
  • Provide marketing support for the DevOps practice (e.g. public speaking, campaigncontent creation, etc)
  • Strong meeting facilitation skills to move from uncertainty to an agreed upon solution
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of senior level consulting experience with business development and coaching responsibilities
  • 4+ years of IT development management, IT operations/infrastructure management, or enterprise solution architectureexperience
  • Able to work in high-profile, potentially stressful customer environments
  • Able to travel extensively including up to 100% travel for short term engagements (up to 3 months) and 80% travel on longer engagements. We try to limit travel to 75% of the year. 
  • Able to communicate to technical & non-technical audience
  • Cloud based certifications a plus (AWS or Azure)
  • Ability to navigate and thrive in fast paced ever changing entrepreneurial environment
  •  Openness to changing mind and opinion based on changes in DevOps industry
