Position Summary:

The role’s primary responsibility is supporting our senior DevOps Engineers in managing AutoNation’s software release pipeline.  This includes version control management, build automation, deployment automation, configuration management.  Other responsibilities include Service Now incident remediation and fulfilling general process automation requests. 

The applicant must be adept to working in a highly fluid environment which includes: frequent changes to requirements, tactics, strategies, and timelines.  Candidate must also be a self-learner with abilities to quickly absorb new and emerging technologies.  Other key requirements include sound troubleshooting skills, effective communication skills and a collaborative approach to problem solving.

Organizational Relationships:

This role reports directly to the DevOps Manager for operational needs and the DevOps Lead for technical direction.  As a member of AutoNation’s DevOps team, the role also requires frequent interaction with most of the IT teams including Application Development, QA, PMO, Security, Network Engineering and Infrastructure Engineering.

Job Responsibilities (indicate % of time devoted to each):

  • Assist Senior DevOps engineers with building and maintaining code release pipelines to DIT, QA, Stage and Production environments (20%)
  • Maintain all lower environments including up to date build documentation (20%)
  • Process automation in relation to DevOps needs (20%)
  • Level 2 production support – as needed (10%)
  • Assist in managing all external vendor integrations with AutoNation’s CRM and Digital systems (10%)
  • Attend daily SCRUM standup meetings with development and QA teams (10%)
  • Provide timely updates on tasks and deliverables to ensure deadlines and SLAs are met (10%)


  • 1-3 years of product engineering experience at the enterprise level using ITIL best practices
  • Associates’ degree in technology or equivalent job experience
  • Microsoft MCSA certification preferred
  • Familiarity with ALM and release managementprocesses
    • Software version control systems in centralized and distributed designs
    • Continuous integration systems that test and package deployable code
    • Continuous deployment systems that deploy/promote code to different environments on demand
    • Configuration management that automatically set environments to desired state
    • Software and system monitoring/alerting that provide fast feedback loops
  • Ability to design and implement process automation using scripting tools and languages such as PowerShell
  • Familiarity with coding standards such as MVC, client-side frameworks (Angular JS/jQuery), asynchronous programming, web sockets (SignalR), web APIs, SOA, SQL and mobile clients is a plus
  • Understanding of zero-downtime deployments and fast rollback strategies
  • Knowledge of server virtualization, cloud infrastructure, network protocols, network operating systems, load-balancing and high availability systems
  • Some experiencetroubleshooting full stack implementations from client to backend systems using tools such as Wireshark, SysInternals, APMs, Log Parsers and Fiddler

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires travel within the US as needed
  • Prolonged periods of standing
  • Ability to work onsite 5 days a week in the AutoNation Corporate Office (Fort Lauderdale, FL)
  • Ability to be part of a pager rotation once every four weeks
