Scope of Position: Support new Glass Development projects for Corning Glass Technologies within a cross functional team (Research, Development, Engineering, Manufacturing). This includes:

• Glass composition and product development for a variety of glass, glass-ceramic, and potential glass-laminate applications

• Support to flat glass manufacturing: such as transitions between glasses, raw materials selection, defect understanding and support to cost reduction programs

Day to Day Responsibilities: Engage in glass development projects w/ Research, Engineering and Mfg. Teams

Travel Requirements: Domestic & International (~10%-30%)

Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time: 40 Hrs. w/ Flex Time

Education and Experience: PhD in the field of - Materials

Required Skills

• Background in material science/glass/ceramics

• Ability to handle multiple projects and critical activities

• Work effectively across functional teams and organizations: including Research, Development, Engineering, Manufacturing, and Commercial

• Knowledge of characterization tools for bulk and surface properties of materials

• Strong people skills to participate and drive fast-paced, high profile projects

• Strong communication skills; verbal and written

Desired Skills

• Experience/background in glass melting and refractory materials

• Glass forming knowledge, including sheet forming experience

• Statistical analysis proficiency

• Knowledge of material mechanical properties, fracture mechanics, and fractography

• Optical sciences proficiency

• Proficiency in wet chemistry and chemical durability of materials

• Effectively able to transition materials/products from research through development and into production
