Primary Job Functions:

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Supports or leads initiative/research directions to improve thin film solar cell performance by integrating new process steps or new materials into device fabrication
  • Plans, executes, and analyses the outcome of experiments performed hands-on or with help from others
  • Ownership of wet chemistry or chemical deposition processes and equipment
  • Supports site safety with expertise in lab chemical hygiene, such as establishing safe work practices and working with EHS experts to identify deficiencies 
  • Comply with the company’s Environmental, Quality, Safety or any other policies that have been enforced
  • Other duties as assigned


  • Has mastered one or multiple fields of chemistry: inorganic, organometallic, physical, analytical, surface
  • At least 3 years process development experience in semiconductor material processing with fundamental understanding of semiconductor material properties
  • Hands-on experience in chemical processing of materials and thin film deposition
  • Working knowledge of all and hands-on experience in some wet deposition methods is required (e.g., chemical bath deposition, electroplating, chemical or mechanical polishing, surface modifications, etc.)
  • Experience in chemical vapor deposition (such as ALD, MOCVD) preferred


  • Bachelor’s Degreerequiredin a physical science or engineering discipline, with 5 years of technical work experience as an Engineer or 2 years as a Development Engineer I with First Solar;
  • Master Degree in a physical science or engineering discipline, with 3 years of technical work experience as an Engineer or 2 years as a Development Engineer I with First Solar;
  • PhD in Chemistry, Material Science or a closely related field

Required Skills/Competencies:

  • Strong sense of project ownership with hands-on and can-do attitude
  • Good understanding of chemical safety
  • Familiar with statistical data analysis and design of experiment methodologies
  • Good communication skills. Can produce clear data, presentations, and reports, as well as oral presentations.
