Under the leadership of the CFO, this individual is responsible for planning, developing and maintaining a comprehensive private and public sector fund-raising program on behalf of the organization. This involves liaison with governmental entities, corporations, philanthropic foundations, community organizations, and other groups. Responsibilities include aggressively seeking new funding sources and grant opportunities and working collaboratively across departments to identify avenues of economic support; developing and implementing solicitation strategies for current and prospective corporate and foundation donors; maintaining relationships with current/past donors and also working to develop and submit proposals. The ideal candidate will possess a well-rounded understanding of fundraising strategy and best practices and has demonstrated an ability to guide the successful implementation of a wide-ranging fundraising program.


  • In partnership with the CFO and President, develop and execute a comprehensive and broad-based fundraising program to secure, retain and grow revenues from individuals, corporations, foundations, organizations of at least $500,000 annually
  • Establish and manage the budget and goals of the fundraising program, including metrics by which success will be measured
  • Manage current grant funders and work with various staff across the organization to identify, cultivate, and solicit prospective donors
  • Spearhead efforts to grow individual giving, including annual campaigns, monthly giving and gifts in kind
  • Lead grant writing and reporting activities; manage grant process to develop accurate timelines; work with appropriate staff to ensure timely proposal production and oversee the fulfillment of the terms of funded projects
  • Effectively manage donor communications and publications including developing print or electronic newsletters, annual reports and donor updates
  • Maintain regular contact with federal, state and local officials and foundation and corporate officials and representatives; meet with current and prospective donors and supporters on a continual basis to establish effective communications with them
  • Grow a major gifts recognition program
  • Implement and operate fundraising database and tracking systems
  • Apply integration of digital fundraising elements
  • Attend and participate in monthly Director?s meetings, Board meetings as requested, community meetings and other off-site activities
  • Perform other work-related duties as assigned



  • Minimum of 7years of relevant professional work experience, including several years in fundraising and donor management
  • Bachelor?s degree in nonprofit administration, public administration, business, public policy, or related field required, Master?s Degreepreferred
  • Any equivalent combination of experience, education, and/or training approved by Human Resources
  • Additional professional certification(s) in fundraising from a recognized organization such as CFRE a plus
  • Experience integrating digital elements into fundraising strategy a plus
  • Fundraising experience in the public and private (philanthropic and corporate) sectors. Documented record of developing successful fundraising strategies within a non-profit organization
  • Track record of success in managing the successful development, implementation and evaluation of a comprehensive fundraising program and achieving annual fundraising goals

  • Possess a well-rounded understanding of fundraising strategy and best practices

  • Exceptional relationship manager who is comfortable networking and fostering partnerships
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills; ability to build trusting relationships across multiple constituencies; ability to coordinate with staff across diverse roles
  • Exceptional public speaking and written communication skills with multiple audiences; bi- or multilingual a plus
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, CRM databases, and social media
  • Comfortable utilizing financialreports, data and analytics to inform decisions
  • General knowledge of early childhood educational practices and procedures; understanding of HighScope philosophy, curriculum and educational approach

  • Normal office environment
  • Physical actions performed frequently, typing, sitting, and reading. Some standing, walking, conversing, using the phone, hearing, stairs
  • Travel: Must be willing and able to travel, including overnight, as required. May need valid driver?s license for travel by car and passport for overseas travel if necessary
