ROLE SUMMARY:

We are looking for a Design Technologist to help extend the capabilities of our design team so that we can study the designs in the rich interactive way our customers will be experiencing them. You should be passionate about design with a trained eye that sees all the way down to the pixel. You should also love coding and have a natural tendency toward systematic solutions. You will prototype experiences in order to experience how things work in devices, as well as write code to provide real-world proof of concept before handing off to engineering. You also geek out on process and have the ability to build tools that will streamline the design workflow or make sharing and collocating more effective. In addition to workflow refinements, you'll use your expert knowledge of the technical considerations to help guide design decisions from ideation to design handoff; this step is often overlooked in the early stages of design but will help us output work that's truer to form. You'll focus on finding ways to do the things we should be doing for our customers regardless of the challenges imposed by the current workings of our business. You'll stay on the pulse of exciting new innovations happening around the world so we can stay on the cutting edge of digital capabilities. Your area of focus will span the entirety of our digital experience, which means you'll be instrumental to and jump between a variety of projects that are running concurrently.

ABOUT THE TEAM:

Our team is small but high performing. We work in various capacities within the organization. We work both as thought leaders and drivers of new initiatives as well as partners collaborating on ideas brought to us from other areas of the company. We create visionary designs to glimpse the future digital experiences from Dollar Shave Club, and we also design the production-ready experiences that our customers interact with today. Our standards for great design are high and we're always looking for ways to get better. We think you will help, and we're looking forward to having you on the team.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Evangelizing a deeper and easier working relationship between design and development
  • Collaborating with development and facilitating more effective design handoffs
  • Ensuring that the highly crafted nuances conjured in the static design process are brought to life
  • Documenting new systems and patterns that arise as a result of the design process
  • Utilizing prototypes or code to continue the design process in-browser or in-app as proof of concept before engineering is engaged
  • Building tools that help bring efficiencies to the design process and ultimately empower faster releases of highly crafted experiences
  • Helping to assess the technical impact of design decisions, and ensuring the consideration of less impactful options that can achieve the same design intent
  • Participating in brainstorming and design ideation
  • Working creatively in order to overcome perceived challenges imposed by the current workings of our business and to always focus on the experience of our customers
  • Discovering and introducing technology innovations that will help design better solutions for our business goals
  • Jumping between various projects easily and efficiently in order to support the needs of the entire design team

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong sensibility and eye for design
  • Proficient understanding of front end programming languages for web, desktop, mobile, native, etc.
  • Familiarity and experience working in productivity applications such as: Sketch, Adobe CS, etc.
  • Ability to rapidly build and iterate prototypes of various levels of functionality
  • Ability to apply design principles such as simplicity and craft throughout all work
  • Experience hooking up APIs or pulling data in order to create real world scenarios for user testing
  • Empathy for the people using our products and a focus on understanding their needs in order to create the best customer experience
  • Clear communication skills and ability to distill complex technical information for both technical and non-technical audiences
  • BA, MFA (or equivalent as demonstrated by portfolio)
  • 10+ years of experience (or equivalent as demonstrated by portfolio).
