Provide overall technical support and supervision during the Design Phase in all active Design-Build and P3 projects in North America.
Work in coordination with the Division Design Leads and Flatiron Design Managers to make sure the Design is submitted as per schedule, is cost efficient, low risk, high quality, fulfill the requirements of the Contract. Work in coordination with the Technical Service Group and Construction Engineering Group to make sure the groups are engaged in the Design Stage whenever is required. This position will report to the Design Management Director.

 

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and provide support in the development of the Detailed Design for all active D-B and P3 projects in North America in direct contact with the Flatiron Design Managers and Division Design Leads to make sure the design is cost efficient, low risk and high quality
  • Plan, develop, organize, and supervise the design efforts for all D-B and P3 projects  
  • Challenge the design consultant technically when required to drive cost efficiency in the design
  • Understand the requirements of the Contracts
  • Travel to project site offices to work hand in hand with the Flatiron design teams and the design firms whenever is required 
  • Ensure the Design meets the requirements of the Contract
  • Ensure the design teams deliver the required services on time and to cost/quality standards
  • Ensure the technical resources are managed effectively by working with the Project Managers. Ensure the design teams during Construction have enough resources to perform the work efficiently
  • Escalate any potential issues to the Management before they become problems, and work with them to resolve 
  • Provides technical engineering guidance and input throughout the design stage
  • Produce along with the Design Managers the Design Progress Reports for the Design Controls
  • Interaction with Owners and third party agencies as necessary to support the projects
  • Develop processes and procedures to support and improve the design process 
  • Plan and co-ordinate the activities of the design process with the Design Managers 
  • Provide leadership, set standards and provide coaching for the Flatiron Design Managers
  • Monitor and track the Design Schedule and Design Budget with the Design Managers to make sure that the design is submitted as per the schedule and within the agreed budget
  • Maintaining organized and detailed project records
  • Provide support to other areas of the Design Management Group whenever is required

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Civil Engineering 
  • 10+ years of related Design Management experience in Infrastructure projects (Design–Build or P3 projects)
  • Oriented to cost efficiency and value engineering
  • Demonstrated aptitude to understand civil engineering projects in all the phases; tender, design and construction
  • Demonstrate excellence in Civil Design Engineering skills, particularly in Transportation Projects 
  • Design experience in Structures or Roadways preferred
  • Design experience in projects of more than 300$M or large infrastructure projects
  • PE preferred 
  • Familiarity with PC software packages typically associated with civil engineering. Highly computer literate in Excel/Word and PowerPoint
  • Ability to produce technical reports 
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) and presentation skills
  • Organizational ability – able to plan, prioritize, organize and monitor activities and projects
  • Highly motivated, flexible and proactive
  • Able to work well in a group environment and foster a team approach 
  • Excellent leadership skills 
  • Ability to lead and motivate teams 
  • Ability to manage personnel on a day to day basis
