PPG Aerospace Transparency's Group produces and markets over 1400 different glass, plastic, and composite transparency designs as well as a variety of components and related products in three different manufacturing facilities supporting Commercial, Military, and General Aviation and Specialty Armored markets. These products are sold to Aircraft OEMs, airline Operators and end users throughout the world.
The Design Group in the PPG Aerospace Transparencies Group provides the design direction, technical specifications and direction for developing new products and materials. Additionally it provides input to the development of new process technology, improvements to existing products and process technologies and provides both internal and external Technical support.
The Design Engineer is accountable for the engineering design support of new and existing all-glass Aerospace Transparencies products throughout the world. Additionally, the position is responsible for technical communications within PPG, as well as to customers and to governmental regulatory agencies and authorities for new and existing products. Interaction with customers, sales, product support engineering, program management, manufacturing, quality assurance, GBDC, other PPG manufacturing facilities, and governmental regulatory agencies and authorities, is achieved through engineering test reports, presentations, white papers, etc., in support of all new and existing products. The Design Engineer provides product testing and product performance evaluations to assure that products and transparency programs will profitably meet performance expectations defined by the customer, regulatory agencies and Aerospace Products, Transparencies.
The Design Engineer should remain technically aware of market and industry trends, government regulations, customer requirements and PPG Aerospace Transparencies' manufacturing process requirements in order to personally contribute suggestions and recommendations and assist subordinates. Interaction with customers, sales, product support engineering, program management, manufacturing, quality assurance, GTC, other PPG manufacturing facilities and possibly regulatory agencies is required. Technical responsibilities include providing support to Huntsville, Sylmar and AmpaSpace manufacturing facilities and all related products. The incumbent carries out these responsibilities through the effective use of engineering skills and experience in such disciplines as structural design and analysis, electrical design, product testing, and product documentation. This function will provide the technical support to Sales to accomplish effective marketing of new products and programs.
The Design Engineer will provide continuous improvement for the department's environmental, health and safety, quality and value performance to insure an injury free work place, 100% compliance to customer satisfaction while meeting plant profitability objectives. From time to time the incumbent will participate on safety, quality and value improvement teams, be responsible to attend and contribute to several ongoing activities such as manufacturing planning, budget preparation and departmental IT planning. The Design Engineer will actively participate in the PPG New Product Introduction (NPI) process during Technical Reviews and Management Gate Reviews (including New Program Selection Meeting). The Design Engineer will actively participate in the PDT process during Technical Reviews and Management Gate Reviews (including New Program Selection Meeting) and will be a key contributor in the engineering review board (ERB) and material review board (MRB) processes.
A B.S. degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Aerospace Engineering and 5+ years of directly related progressively responsible experience is required.
