As part of a small, passionate and accomplished team of experts, you'll guide New Shepard Operations and Maintenance (NSOM) group in the development of sustaining commercial suborbital operations. The NSOM Team operates and maintains Blue Origin’s New Shepard vehicles and supporting ground infrastructure in West Texas. You will ensure the team meets schedule, budget, and operational commitments. The Deputy Director supports the Director and the NSOM Senior Managers in managing all aspects of the NSOM Program, and may have direct reports as necessary to support NSOM-wide efforts. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable spaceflight.


  • Leadership and mentoring of NSOM Managers
  • Lead periodic reviews of team progress and health including tracking and managing technical performance metrics and other key performance indicators
    • Lead reporting of program execution to the plan including scope, budget, scheduling and resource allocation, as well as status of operations critical path, challenges and solution
    • Manage NSOM efforts to accomplish New Shepard and Company goals
  • Support recruiting, including occasionally filling the role of Hiring Managers for leadership positions
  • Participate in strategic planning, including leading detailed annual operating planning and new project planning in proposal phase
  • Develop and manage support agreements with other company support centers and business units
  • Occasionally fulfill role of Director of Operations and Maintenance when latter individual is absent or occupied


  • Minimum of a B.S. degree in Engineering with Project Management training
  • 12+ years industry experience in progressive project management or operations management roles
  • Demonstratedexperience in all aspects of program and project management including technical,schedule,budget, and resources
    • Experience with logic linked scheduling and Cost Account Management
    • Experience in budget management and reporting
  • Demonstrated technical expertise in an area spacecraft, launch vehicle or high performance aircraft sustaining operations including maintenance, logistics and sustaining engineering support
  • Demonstrated experience leading and managing small teams on fast-paced hardware and flight projects.
  • Ability to lead and hold accountable a geographically dispersed team
  • Leadership and management experience as well as a history of mentoring
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum


  • PMP credential or equivalent
  • MBA or MS in engineering management
  • Experience with human spaceflight
  • Experience with Primavera (P6), CREO, Windchill
  • Prior personnel or functional manager experience in addition to technical project management
