JOB SUMMARY

The Department Manager has overall responsibility for the Bakery/Sandwich Making area of the plant. This role will develop and deliver a master plan for the department and manage the daily results of the work, to include equipment layout, team design/staffing and results management.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead Bakery or Sandwich Making Operating Department to deliver department master plan, plant reliability and financial goals, and systems implementation
  • Ensure the department meets all safety, quality and sanitation standards
  • Lead high-performance work culture by engaging with team members on the floor and coaching to problem solve, make decisions, and become self-reliant
  • Removes barriers and provides resources for department’s work
  • Build capability of department in the areas of interpersonal, technical, and business skills through consistent feedback
  • Embrace change and build department buy-in to new initiatives and improvements
  • Ensures that essential business information and general expectations are clearly communicated and understood by all members of the team
  • Responsible for managing the department budget, including: labor, overuse, maintenance spending, production supplies, etc.
  • Optimize the work in the department and drive toward zero defects using Smucker Continuous Improvement methodologies
  • Serves as plant owner for Autonomous Maintenance or Progressive Maintenance pillar
  • Develop and implement improvement projects and drive completion through the teams
  • Responsible for career development and performance management of direct reports
  • Partner with other departments to ensure consistent policies and processes are being implemented across the Longmont plant
  • Model the Basic Beliefs and Our Commitment to Each Other
  • Provide leadership to support plant start up activities at the department level

SELECTION CRITERIA

Education

  • A Bachelor’sdegree is required, an Engineering degree is preferred

Experience

  • At least 3 years of experience managing supervisors and teams is required
  • At least 3 years of manufacturing operational experience is required, food manufacturing experience is preferred
  • Prior people management experience in a high-performance work environment is preferred

Other

  • Proven ability to lead and influence a large organization to deliver business needs
  • Ability to engage on the floor to coach and motivate others
  • Decisive, proactive and strategic in decision making
  • Strong organizational, critical thinking, problem solving, and root-cause identification skills
  • Demonstrated use of Continuous Improvement processes and tools to achieve measurable improvements
  • Effectively works across organization boundaries and with diverse teams
  • Able to learn new technologies quickly and teach others
  • Excellent presentation, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite applications
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Willingness to work off-shifts or weekends as needed
  • Willingness to relocate for future opportunities
  • Some travelrequired for plant start up
