KBR (formerly Stinger Ghaffarian Technologies (SGT)) is looking for a Database Developer/Architect to fill a position in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. KBR is the primary contractor to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS)performing work at the Earth Resources Observation and Science (EROS) Center (Sioux Falls, SD) The multidisciplinary staff, in partnership with NOAA, use their unique expertise to elicit, store and provide detailed analysis of user requirements, and Earth Observation system capabilities.

Responsibilities:

The Database Developer/Architect will support the Technical Support Services Contract, Remote Sensing Division development group as part of the USGS Requirements Capabilities & Analysis for Earth Observations (RCA-EO). The Developer/Architect will be responsible to provide system analysis, design, implementation and management of databases. The individual will work with the staff, contractor technical managers, and the government customer to design and implement core Postgres database applications and procedures to meet requirements and needs of the project.

The Developer/Architect must have the ability to work autonomously, in a team environment, with other contractor staff, and the Government customer. The position requires strong written and verbal communication skills and the individual must have the ability to take initiative, to develop creative solutions, and to have a willingness to learn. (SW Engineer I-II LC)


Education: BS/BA in information systems, computer science or related database field preferred

Experience: 1 to 2 years of related experience desired

Requirements:

  • Ability to create and manage the data aspects within a database architecture
  • Experience in database design, development, implementation, and query optimization
  • Experience in SQL and PL/SQL (or any other SQL based procedural language)
  • Ability to translate technical specifications, and/or logical and physical design into code for new or enhancement projects
  • Support anomaly investigation and troubleshooting activities
  • Willingness to participate in special projects and performing other duties as assigned
  • Excellent quantitative, analytical, interpersonal, and communications skills
  • Self-motivated with ability to work with minimal supervision in a team environment
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Excel, PowerPoint, and Word

Other Qualifications:

  • Ability to deliver code into the development, test, and production environments
  • Ability to learn and follow software development methodology; learn and follow architecture standards
  • Participate in design, code, and test inspections throughout life cycle to identify issues; participating in other meetings, such as those for use case creation
  • Participate in systems analysis activities, including system requirements analysis and definition (e.g., prototyping), and logical and physical design
  • Perform as a tester for unit, integration, systems, acceptance, and related testing
  • Ability to learn quickly and adapt in a dynamic environment
  • Ability to multi-task and support multiple customers/projects
  • Knowledge or experience with PostgreSQL is a plus
  • Knowledge or experience with Data Warehouse is a plus
  • Knowledge or experience with Oracle is a plus

Additional Desired Skills:

  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn and participate in Agile Development Processes including Continuous Delivery Implementation
  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn and participate in Agile Detailed Planning environments such as JIRA and Confluence
