Data Scientist at Milliman Inc in Chicago, IL

As a Data Scientist, you will develop predictive models for Milliman’s market leading claim analytics solution, NodalTM. You will leverage Deep Learning and NLP techniques to process disparate data sources to support our solution. This position requires significant scientific rigor and statistical expertise, particularly with text data.

You will be a core member of our energetic Nodal team that helps shape the future of our product. Your responsibilities will include:

• Apply advanced analytical methods to large, complex data sets of structured and unstructured data (claim data, medical data, etc.)
• Solve difficult, non-routine analytical challenges
• Conduct end-to-end analysis that includes data gathering and requirements specification, processing, analysis, and ongoing deliverables
• Identify opportunities to improve existing solutions, as well as research and develop new solutions. You will see your work become real solutions.
• Communicate findings to management

Education:

The candidate must meet the following minimum educational requirements:

• MS or PhD degree graduate in a quantitative discipline (e.g. data science, computer science, computational finance, mathematics, statistics, etc.) with a high GPA
• ACAS or FCAS is also acceptable, but must have demonstrable quantitative experience per qualifications below

Qualifications:

The candidate should have excellent analytical, communication, time management and organizational skills in addition to meeting the following key requirements:

• Experience in machine learning techniques and frameworks, including Deep Learning is required
• Experience with Natural Language Processing (NLP) is required
• Experience with standard open source data science tools and languages (e.g. R, Python, etc)
• Experience with database languages (e.g. SQL)
• Experience with cloud technologies (e.g. AWS and Azure)
• Demonstrated track record in building predictive models on complex datasets
• Demonstrated self-direction and ability to learn new techniques
• Up to 10 years of relevant work experience in data science
• Ability to obtain work authorization in the United States

Availability:

Candidate will preferably begin as soon as possible (February 2021). The position will be remote until our Chicago office re-opens in the summer of 2021.
