Job Description

As a key member of the Platform Engineering team, the Data Platform Engineer will be responsible for maintaining and elevating the reliability, performance, and scalability of our databases and data infrastructure. Working closely with DevOps, Security, and Analytics teams, this role ensures our data systems remain stable, efficient, and production-ready while supporting business growth and operational resilience.

The Data Platform Engineer will operate our database ecosystem as critical infrastructure - proactively improving performance, automating administrative processes, strengthening observability, and participating in on-call response for platform incidents.

If you are motivated by building stable, scalable database environments and enjoy automating complex systems to reduce operational risk, this could be the ideal role for you.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

Database Reliability & Operations
  • Administer and optimize production databases, including PostgreSQL, Snowflake, Solr, OpenSearch, Redis, and related systems
  • Monitor database health, replication status, and performance metrics
  • Proactively identify and remediate storage bloat, table fragmentation, and indexing inefficiencies
  • Execute and validate backup and disaster recovery procedures
  • Support and improve high-availability configurations

Replication & Data Pipeline Support
  • Monitor and manage replication to Snowflake
  • Assist with Fivetran configuration and ingestion reliability
  • Troubleshoot replication lag, WAL growth, and data sync issues
  • Partner with analytics teams to ensure schema changes are safe and performant

Automation & DevOps Integration
  • Automate database provisioning and configuration using Infrastructure as Code (Terraform)
  • Improve CI/CD workflows related to database changes and data platform configuration
  • Reduce manual database processes through scripting and automation
  • Contribute to shared platform engineering standards

Observability & Incident Response
  • Build and maintain monitoring and alerting for database systems
  • Participate in on-call rotations for platform reliability
  • Lead troubleshooting efforts during database or data platform incidents
  • Contribute to root cause analysis and long-term reliability improvements

Cross-Team Collaboration
  • Partner with DevOps to ensure database infrastructure aligns with platform standards
  • Support analytics teams without owning a dashboard or reporting logic
  • Escalate identified risks related to performance, availability, or data integrity

This Role Is Ideal For Someone Who
  • Has strong DBA roots but wants to evolve into platform engineering
  • Understands that databases are production systems, not background utilities
  • Wants to automate repetitive DBA tasks and modernize database operations
  • Is comfortable working in a fast-moving engineering environment
  • Enjoys stability engineering as much as performance tuning

WHO YOU ARE

5+ years of experience in database administration, systems engineering, or infrastructure engineering

Strong hands-on experience managing production databases (PostgreSQL, Oracle, Snowflake, OpenSearch, Solr, or similar)
  • Experience with database replication, clustering, performance tuning, and storage optimization
  • Solid background in Linux system administration (Windows experience a plus)
  • Experience managing backup strategies, recovery testing, and high-availability configurations
  • Understanding of DevOps principles, CI/CD practices, and infrastructure automation
  • Experience or familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform preferred)
  • Comfortable participating in on-call rotations and responding to production incidents
  • Experience with monitoring and observability tools (CloudWatch, Prometheus, Grafana, New Relic, etc.)
  • Experience optimizing database storage (e.g., VACUUM, repacking tables, index management, partitioning strategies, etc.)
  • Experience supporting data replication pipelines and third-party ingestion tools (e.g., Fivetran)
  • Familiarity with cloud environments (AWS preferred)

Technical Certifications Preferred but Not Required
  • AWS Database Specialty or Solutions Architect
  • Snowflake SnowPro Core
  • Oracle OCP or PostgreSQL equivalent
  • Terraform Associate
