You generate ideas, communicate recommendations to senior-level executives and drive implementation alongside facilities technicians.

Through your leadership, you use your technical expertise to lead cross-functional teams to develop infrastructure improvements. You manage a team of engineers and assign Googlers to projects based on their capabilities and the project's demands.

In this role as a Data Center Systems Architect, you will have the opportunity to demonstrate data center design and analyses as well as cross-functionally lead electrical, mechanical, automation and software engineers to solve challenging Google problems. You will also partner with business groups and internal customers to develop new technology to optimize our architecture throughout the data center, hardware, and software stacks; improving the overall efficiency of our computing infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Provide current and future looking data center architectural leadership efforts within the Data Center Research and Engineering team. Partner with hardware, machine learning, automation, robotics, data center controls, and software development teams.
  • Provide integration expertise, technical analysis and critical data analysis related to the overall system architecture. Provide guidance, direction and work on large data constructs that may be analyzed computationally to reveal patterns, trends, and associations, to improve Google’s technical infrastructure.
  • Develop and maintain strong functional relationships across multidisciplinary teams to anticipate future data center physical architectures, controls, automation, and areas to improve Google’s overall resource efficiency.
  • Provide key representation and technical interface to key internal partner organizations including software, network, hardware, Site Reliability Engineering and resource efficiency.

Qualifications

Minimumqualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 7 years of experience in the design, construction and operation of data centers or adjacent mission critical facilities. Experience in IT hardware design and data centers.
  • Experience with facility power and cooling related infrastructure systems for data centers or equivalent critical, industrial automation and controls systems design.


Preferredqualifications:

  • MSdegree or PhD in Electrical/Power Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related technical discipline.
  • Large and complex system design experience; including large campus plants and ability to analyze and visualize data.
  • Strong demonstrated results in analytics and data center integration projects.
  • Ability to develop creative and innovative solutions to reduce costs with no impact on quality and reliability. Ability to research new designs, technologies, and construction methods of data center equipment and facilities.
  • A strong understanding of IT stack integration.
