Data Center Manager at NBC Universal in Englewood Cliffs, NJ

Responsibilities

The position is tasked with leading Data Center specific projects. The manager is responsible for setting the installation prioritization criteria, negotiating installation timeframes with the business, ensuring quality installation processes are in place and delivering controls and measurements around Data Center processes. The Data Center Manager holds a key responsibility to manage a third-party vendor that is currently performing Managed Services for IT. This third-party company has Data Center techs deployed in NBCU data centers that support the day to day operation of these facilities. The Data Center Manager will be heavily involved in a Data Center consolidation project NBCU is undergoing. For this project, it will be key for the selected candidate to partner with multiple IT teams to complete the multiple tasks required to successfully achieve the goal. This role will be heavily involved in the maintenance of a DCIM solution that will cover all major NBCU facilities in the East and West coasts. Key responsibilities for this responsibility are to ensure workflow processes are being closely followed, data is updated constantly and everyone in the team is aware of any changes to the DCIM standards. Another key responsibility for this position is the capacity management for all of NBCU IT facilities. The previously mentioned processes and workflows will assist with data accuracy to provide up to date capacity reports as well as forecasted demand. The data center Manager should be comfortable communicating with senior levels of management, understand how to manage multiple critical priorities and drive a team forward under the principles of quality, timeliness, commitment to execution and focus.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Partner with the Managed Services company to ensure the team is performing as expected, SLAs, processes and best practices are being closely adhered to and improved when possible.

• Service Delivery - defines, publishes and maintains the criteria for data center installation and execution. Tracks and publishes metrics around said processes and drives continuous improvement programs to ensure the business is receiving data center services in a timely manner.

• Expected to supervise all aspects of data center resource management, including: problem identification and resolution, installation prioritization, and the detailed inventory recording of all hardware.

• Operational Level Agreements - Manages the technology solutions delivery process – participates in the coordination of not only Data Center activities but all other tasks related to the deployment process and ensures final product is in line with customer request.
• DCIM maintenance, process improvement, updates etc.
• Manage costs against increased data center utilization - look for ways to more efficiently deliver data center services.
• Ensures Qualified Data Center status is maintained, and proper processes are used to support integrity of the operation.
• Participate in the definition and use of data center technology standards and guidelines required to implement a consistent NBC - Universal data center infrastructure.
• Expected to manage multiple vendors providing services in support of data center infrastructure activities. Vendor management includes establishing and monitoring service levels, escalating problems through to resolution, and ensuring compliance with obligations of contracts and agreements.
• Expected to conduct technical meetings for internal and external representatives regarding the NBC - Universal data center infrastructure, including the capabilities, capacities, utilization and technological direction as required to ensure a useful understanding of the NBC - Universal infrastructure.
• Expected to manage various aspects of data center activities for business unit groups.
• Expected to keep abreast of technology developments in the data center field.
• Expected to ensure that schedule and performance standards are met and sustained.
• Expected to fully understand, support, and comply with all NBC - Universal policies, procedures and best practices.
• Requires sound technological judgment and an enthusiasm for innovation tempered with a pragmatic assessment of the possible.

Qualifications/Requirements

•B.S. degree in Information Technology, Business Administration or other technical discipline.

•Candidates must have 5+ yrs of experience in a data center management role – must understand the technology behind the effective delivery of data center services and know how to support a service delivery model.

•Candidate must have 5+ years of project management experience – must be comfortable understanding technical requirements, explain solutions guidelines and driving teams towards target delivery dates.

•Candidate must be experienced with negotiations, dealing with confrontations and maintain relationships.

•Substantial experience in the successful implementation of technology to address business needs.

•Excellent written and verbal communications; effective interpersonal skills; strong formal presentation abilities.

•Broadcast and/or media industry experience.
