 Job Description: 

The Data Analytics Specialist is part of the Product Innovation group in  R&D Department.  The role will be working cross-functionally in R&D, marketing, clinical, and operation teams. You will leverages Align’s digital clinical database to develop and deliver data-driven insights, metrics, and recommendations to assist teams to drive the company’s product development roadmap.  The roadmap that helps Align transform the orthodontic and Dental world with the Invisalign product.

A successful candidate will be a strong analytical thinker with a solid engineering background to formulate critical technical hypothesis and drive complex analysis and innovation.


  • Responsible for constructing technical hypothesis, collecting, compiling, analyzing, and interpreting information from all available sources to advance product innovation
  • Use state-of-the-art data science methods to derive insights from clinical database and contribute to product development projects
  • Be one of the product analytics expert within the Product Innovation group, including product engineering, materials, software, and clinical research teams
  • Produce data-sets and ad-hoc statistical reports for analysis from relational databases at the request of R&D and other business units
  • Perform processing, cleansing, and verifying the integrity of data used for analysis
  • Master complex components of Invisalign product and processes in all aspects
  • Articulate high-level business requirements into detailed product analysis plans
  • Formulate study hypotheses and perform analysis independently or in collaboration with data teams/machine learning teams within the organization
  • Identify key insights from data, prepare well-documented memos/presentations and share with internal/external stakeholders
  • Investigate root causes of product deficiency and guide product development to address them
  • Provide actionable plans to cross-functional teams based on product analysis results
  • Work in a fast-paced environment and meet critical deadlines
  • Work on multiple ongoing projects, with minimal oversight, documentation, and defined process


  • BS or MS in computer science, machine learning, statistics or related technical field or equivilent years of experience.
  • 3+ years of Product engineering experience (medical device or pharmaceutical preferred)
  • 5+ years of experience in a related field, relevant industry experience in data mining and statistical analysis using analytic tools
  • Proven ability to tailor statistical methods to given application field
  • Proficiency with querying relational databases  (e.g. SQL)

Nice to Have:

  • Experience with business analytics tools such as Tableau, or Power BI
  • Experience with scriptinglanguages such as R or Python
  • Excellent understanding of machine learning techniques and algorithms
  • Strong command of Excel/spreadsheets including pivots, charts and other advanced functions
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to explain complicated quantitative concepts to non-technical audiences and interact cross-functionally with both technical and non-technical people
  • Knowledge or experience in Orthodontics or dental industry
