Cyber Communications Manager & Writer

At Capital One, we’re rethinking the way the world approaches cyber security by experimenting and innovating in our safeguarding of 65 million customers. We are looking for an independent self-starter that can deliver high-quality products and provide communications support for our organization.

We are drawn to action, inventive and self-motivated, and we’re passionate about security. We get excited when building solutions that protect our associates and our customers. We need analysts, product managers, decision scientists, designers, relationship managers, engineers, and communicators committed to using intellectual curiosity and rigorous analytical skills to deliver unparalleled experiences to our customers.

It takes a big group of people with a broad range of skills to do that well, and we need to keep all those people aligned, connected, and passionate about our work. That’s where you come in – you will partner closely with the Cyber Chief of Staff and Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) to develop and disseminate communications related to our overarching enterprise cyber strategy.

You should have:

  • A strong resume and portfolio that clearly demonstrate your experiences
  • A customer-centric perspective while also understanding higher-level business and branding objectives
  • The ability to tell a story in a compelling and digitally forward-thinking way
  • A clear understanding of tone and the flexibility to quickly adapt your writing style
  • A history of building and maintaining strong working relationships
  • A collaborative spirit combined with a passion for creating the best possible experience for your teammates and customers
  • A demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement
  • Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills

You should be:

  • A “can do” person – you lead with yes, considering what’s possible without getting hung up on what’s probable
  • A tenacious problem solver - you partner with your customers to understand their intent and goals, develop plans that meets their needs, and relentlessly pursue options to deliver stellar results
  • Creative enough to participate in brainstorming sessions, and driven enough to follow-up with your ideas and options
  • A stickler for detail, you can quickly and creatively solve for whatever gets thrown your way
  • A master juggler, you are unafraid to alert the ringmaster before you let anything slip

How you’ll help us succeed:

  • Serve as the primary author for all cyber communications, drafting and editing corporate communications in a variety of voices
  • Ensure all communications adhere to brand, style guide, and core narratives
  • Create, maintain, and ensure consistency on a series of messaging themes across a diverse set of channels to promote strategy, business priorities, and cultural transformation
  • Develop and manage an inventory of content and a publication calendar in addition to content validation and ongoing maintenance
  • Oversee all messages and presentations sent from the CISO's Office including community engagements, associate-facing communications, regulator interactions, and any ad-hoc communications requests
  • Experiment with new communication avenues to maximize impact and connection with associates
  • Develop measurement techniques to understand the success of your messages and identify insights to be applied to your next iteration
  • Evaluate proposed projects and programs for strategic and tactical communication needs
  • Use your relationships to promote early collaboration on initiatives that will affect associates, providing input to manage reputational risks, provide perspective on likely associate reactions, and create consistency
  • Partner with our corporate communications team for alignment on key messaging and strategy

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Communications or Military experience
  • At least 7 years of experience in communications or copywriting
  • At least 3 years of experience crafting and managing communications in support of a leadership team through newsletters, or intranet, or social media, or messaging platforms

  • 1+ year of experience in a financial institution
  • 1+ year of experience in cybersecurity or information security
