Department Overview

The Counsel, Wealth Legal, will be a member of the Canadian Wealth Management Legal Team located in Toronto. The Canadian Wealth Management Legal Team consists of lawyers focused on providing advice and counsel to TD’s Canadian wealth and asset management businesses, including TD Asset Management, TD Investment Services, TD Waterhouse, TD Waterhouse Private Investment Counsel, as well as ?The Canada Trust Company. ?In this role you will join a fast-paced, dynamic and collegial team of professionals and be involved in a wide range of activities working to advance strategic priorities and ensuring proper risk oversight across these businesses.

Job Description

Working with a team oflawyers led by the Vice President, Legal,Wealth Management, the Counsel will:

  • Provide legal and regulatory advice to TD’s wealth and asset management businesses
  • Work collaboratively with business, control functions and with other members of TD Legal to deliver high-quality legal advice, and coordinated advice and support
  • Provide wealth and asset management business client’s legal support in relation to the launch and ongoing maintenance of retail and institutional investment funds products and services, as well as wealth management products and services
  • Build and maintain superior relationships with internal business partners
  • Reviewing and advising on regulatory developments pertaining to the wealth and asset management businesses
  • Reviewing, drafting and negotiating contracts, investment fund disclosure documentation
  • Reviewing and drafting client agreements and documentation and client and marketing communications
  • Contribute to high priority Legal Department initiatives including efficiency and workflow improvement

Requirements

  • Lawdegree from an accredited law school and qualified to practice law in Ontario
  • Minimum 3-5years as a corporate-securities lawyer with a major law firm or in a large corporate environment
  • Ideally, previous experience in providing legal support and advice on wealth and/or asset managementinvestment products and services
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to identify and focus on high value, high risk work
  • Ability to think critically and exercise excellent judgment
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, detail oriented, environment and manage multiple deadlines and priorities
  • High energy and enthusiastic
