Cost Accountant (Senior Level)
The Cost Accountant position is part of the Decision Support team in the Corporate Financial Planning department. Clinical cost accounting relates general ledger expenses to patient volume, to measure operational performance and resource consumption. The cost accounting system uses accounting and patient data to calculate costs for the reporting module. This position handles all aspects of cost accounting, and produces the cost data that is the basis for financial analysis of our services. The position provides reports of financial indicators for presentation to executive leadership.
The Cost Accountant performs all maintenance functions for the cost accounting database including: loading data files, updating cost definitions and statistics, and calculating the overhead allocations.
The position is responsible for data validation: identifying and researching discrepancies, and reviewing results for reasonableness and accuracy. The position requires documentation and transparency of processes, and producing reconciliations and audit logs. This role collaborates with Accounting, Revenue Integrity, Strategic Planning, Clinical Analysis, and other teams to produce cost data results.
5 years overall business experience with a minimum of 3 years in Healthcare Finance, Data Analysis, Reporting Cost Accounting or Decision Support preferred.
Working knowledge of Income Statements, Patient Accounting, Hospital Charging and Coding, Databases, Manipulating and Querying large data sets, Expert Excel or Access skills.
Knowledge of Data Visualization Tools preferred.
The ideal candidate has practical knowledge of advanced cost accounting concepts and systems, demonstrable data analysis skills, and experience producing dashboard style reports of KPIs.
