This is a hyrbrid GM and Sales role.  Candidates must have experience in corrugated sales and corrugated packaging production leadership.  We are open to relo candidates.  

We are currently recruiting for a General Manager in the packaging industry.  The company is family owned operate 10 facilities in 5 states.

General Manager Job Description

The General Manager will be responsible for the entire plant operation and profitability and will contribute to the executive management of the company. 

Expectations/Responsibilities of the General Manager:

The General Manager will direct and coordinate activities of the industrial organization to obtain optimum efficiency and economy of operations and will maximize profits by performing the following duties, personally or through subordinate supervisors:

  • Manages pricing, cost containment, and safety
  • Responsible for overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these departments: Production, Shipping, Design, Customer Service, Administration
  • Plan and manage internal communications and awareness of corporate direction, mission, goals, and activities
  • Recommend and submit budget, expenditures, and appropriations to ownership
  • Coordinates activities of divisions or departments such as operating, manufacturing, engineering, planning, sales, maintenance or research and development to effect operational efficiency and economy
  • Analyzes division or department budget requests to identify areas in which reductions can be made, and allocates operating budget
  • Confers with administrative personnel and reviews activity, operations, and salesreports to determine if changes in programs or operations are required
  • Directs preparation of directives to division or department administrator outlining policy, program, or operational changes to be implemented
  • Promotes organization in industry, manufacturing or trade associations
  • HRresponsibilities including interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems, terminations, etc.
  • Recruit, manage, train and motivate direct reporting staff according to company procedures and policy
  • Direct product simplification and standardization to eliminate unprofitable items for sales line
  • Deliver sales presentations to key clients in coordination with sales representatives
  • Meet with key clients and assist sale representatives with maintaining relationships and negotiating and closing deals
  • Analyze and control expenditures of division to confirm to budgetary requirements
  • Assist other departments within organization to prepare manuals and technical publications
  • Directs and coordinates promotion of products manufactured or services performed to develop new markets, increase share of market, and obtain competitive position in the industry

In addition to the above duties and responsibilities, the General Manager will temporarily be overseeing the Sales function until a Sales Manager is hired.  Additional duties will be:

  • Plan and implement marketing strategy in order to grow profitable sales
  • Plan and implement sales and customer retention and development
  • Formulate sales strategy to maximize customer satisfaction
  • Manage design and new business development
  • Plan and manage internal communications and awareness of corporate direction, mission, aims, and activities
  • Develop and implement strategic sales plans to accommodate corporate goals
  • Prepare periodic salesreport showing sales volume, potential sales, and areas of proposed client base expansion

Ideal Candidate Qualifications

  • Degree

  • 3-5 years of salesexperience selling corrugated
  • Strong leadership experience in production; understanding of machinery in the industry
  • Experience as a successful sales manager
  • Understanding of market pricing
  • Clean driving record
