About the role

We are looking for Corporate Controller based in Montréal or Sept-Îles, QC. The Corporate Controller will lead the Accounting, Control, Compliance and Financial Reporting of the Company.


This role is a great opportunity for an experienced Professional to evolve the organization as necessary towards best-in class financial leadership and a high level of reliability delivering accurate financial information in an efficient and timely manner. S/he will lead initiatives to improve processes and implement tools to increase the efficiency of its team. The Corporate Controller will act as an advisor to the CFO, the executive leadership team, and the broad business regarding compliance withinternal financial control standards, preparing appropriate reports and ensuring remedial actions are implemented. In addition, the Controller could be a potential spokesperson for the company, interacting extensively with a range of stakeholders, including representative of the shareholders, the Board of Directors and various external and internal parties. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, you will be:


  • Build, engage and lead an organization of approximately 25 finance professionals
  • Ensure the integrity of the Company's financial reporting and internal control systems through proactive interaction with the business and a "low surprises" environment
  • Provide financial reports in accordance to accounting standards, including all the appropriate segmentation and public disclosures in accordance to the regulators
  • Lead the development of all the processes and capabilities to provide the required Management Discussion & Analysis documents, Financial Reports and accompanying notes and disclosures
  • Play a key role interacting with external and internal auditors, ensuring the organization has the appropriate controls
  • Create strong corporate finance capabilities leveraging Rio Tinto's existing capabilities to implement new and more rigorous processes as required to enable consolidation, controls, reporting and disclosure processes Establish and maintain company policies and procedures surrounding finance and accounting matters
  • Analyze, assess implications of, and implement new accounting guidance and standards across the enterprise
  • Determine accounting treatment and financial implications of complex and exceptional transactions
  • Support evaluation and implementation of new company initiatives
  • Prepare materials and reports for Board and Executive Management


About you


To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:

  • Bachelor Degree in Business or Engineering;
  • Minimum of 10 years of procurement & supply chain experience;
  • Previous experience with multi-national companies
  • Language: English
  • Commercial acumen commensurate with role requirements
  • Strong problem solving, strategic and analytical capability
  • Effective and authoritative communication and coaching skills
  • Effective time management and personal organizational skills
  • Demonstrate an open minded genuine curiosity towards understanding the needs of business and the impact of applied solutions
  • Able to work alone and to take feedback
  • Proven stakeholder management experience

The Iron Ore Company of Canada (IOC) is a leading Canadian producer of iron ore concentrate and iron ore pellets that serves customers worldwide. The company operates a mine, a concentrator and a pelletizing plant in Labrador City, Newfoundland and Labrador, as well as port facilities in Sept-Îles, Quebec. It also operates a 418 kilometer railroad that links the mine to the port.
