Core Engineer II with proven ability to work in a team environment with other Core and Network Engineers to design, implement, and manage complex network infrastructure solutions.
The incumbent will be responsible for researching, designing, and implementing local core and aggregation networks (LANs) and wide area networks (WANs) supporting various product sets across the organization. In addition, the Core Engineer II will participate with the installation, monitoring, maintenance, support, and optimization of network hardware, software, and communication links. This individual will also analyze and resolve network hardware and software problems in a timely and accurate fashion, and serve as Tier 3 escalation for the NOC and ATS, and provide training to related support groups as needed.
Candidates should possess an expert level of network experience with datacenter and connectivity networking technologies and concepts. Must have strong organizational skills and problem-solving expertise, while working with current and emerging technologies. Must be able to manage very dynamic environments and have the ability to adapt quickly to technology changes. Working well in stressful situations with tight deadlines is a must.
•Provide network administration as a member of the Core Engineering team.
•Responsible for assisting in the design and implementation of network designs and solutions that deliver performance, reliability and scalability.
•Work with Network Planning to manage growth plans by monitoring network performance, identifying capacity needs, and choosing appropriate hardware options.
•Represent Core Engineering on cross-functional product/project teams, in the development, launch and administration of data and or voice services.
•Perform all aspects of technical deployment projects, which include developing implementation plans, methods of procedure (MOP's), and execution of work
•Provide hands-on engineering support of the existing network infrastructure and technologies
•Monitor performance, capacity, and availability of the network on an ongoing basis and recommend improvements in technologies and practices to improve these metrics
•Participate in on-call rotation for escalation support of technical issues, supporting the 24x7 production network environment
•Develop and maintain technical documentation and procedures, as well as establish and recommend policies and standards on network configuration and services
Four years of College resulting in a Bachelor's Degree or equivalent
•6 to 7 years of work experience
•Minimum of 5 years hands-on experience in network engineering and administering IP networks.
•Previous sales engineering or network design a plus.
•Previous duties as Team Leader a plus.
•Extensive hands on experience in the configuration and maintenance of routers, hubs, bridges, and switches.
•In depth Experience with IP platforms involving dynamic routing protocols like EIGRP, OSPF, and BGP and their related control protocols.
•Practical real world experience of heterogeneous networking components along with knowledge of routing/ switching involving MEF standards, Cell Site Back Haul, optical networks, etc.
•Experience with Telco provisioning processes.
•Project Management experience a plus.
•Experience using network analysis, management and performance monitoring tools to evaluate product and service behaviors.
•Working experience with troubleshooting tools such as traceroute, dig, netdump/snoop, and packet analysis applications.
•Familiarity with security related Internet information sources such as Arbor Networks, etc
•Experience with the configuration and administration of both Hardware and Software based Firewalls.
•Experience with Visio creating detailed network diagrams.
•Thorough understanding of routing protocols, with preference for BGP and ISIS experience. Experience and working knowledge of MPLS, VPLS, and MEF standards preferred.
•Proven experience and demonstrable success with designing, maintaining, and implementing complex multi-service networks
•Relevant certifications required. Expert certifications such as CCNP or CCIE highly recommended.
•Ability to prioritize and execute tasks in a dynamic environment, able to balance multiple projects, tasks, completing them successfully and within timelines
