Job Description

Who We Are:

At Brooks, we believe a run can change a day, a life, the world. Everyone who works here is a key part of our obsession to make the best running gear on the planet. We want our business — which also happens to be our passion — to be a place where everyone feels welcome and comfortable being themselves. Our company culture defines us, bonds us together, and drives our success. We live this culture daily through our brand values: Runner First, Word is Bond, Champion Heart, There is no “I” in Run, and Keep Moving. This means we always solve for the runner, do what we say we will, give it our all, are generous with our humanity, and find a way to keep moving every day, because joy is kinetic.

Are you ready to help create something extraordinary?

Your Job:

The Brooks global creative team imagines, designs, curates, and manifests creative concepts, campaigns, and assets that define and express the Brooks brand. Print, retail, packaging, web, digital, events — even porta potties — are our canvas and runners are our inspiration.

You will develop a wide range of work, from brand campaigns to video concepts to product headlines to packaging copy. You’ll work collaboratively with designers and producers, so experience in creative concepting and campaign work is an asset.

Responsibilities:

  • Cultivate and consistently write in the Brooks brand voice
  • Commit to developing a deep understanding of the Brooks brand, its products, target audience, and competitor activities
  • Write conversationally about products and technologies (in other words, explain complicated tech specs without sounding like you swallowed a textbook)
  • Create forward-thinking concepts across interactive and traditional media, while maintaining brand standards and delivering against creative briefs
  • Deliver branded communications, including campaign ads, event collateral, landing pages, and video concepts
  • Guide and augment the development of brand marketing campaigns from outside agencies
  • Understand digital copywriting best practices, copy testing, and performance data, with the ability to translate learnings into strategies
  • Prioritize your work and communicate those priorities to project managers
  • Be able to present and explain creative work to stakeholders
  • Proofread your own work with a sharp eye
  • Be a team player: prioritize helping your colleagues when they need it, and provide quality control of all copy that leaves the building

Qualifications

  • An online portfolio demonstrating creative excellence, including interactive / digital work, with major consumer brands is required — please add your online portfolio link at the top of your résumé when applying
  • Bachelor’s degree in English, communications, marketing, or related field
  • 3+ years’ experience crafting stories and writing copy that captivates and motivates people to act
  • Technical writing experience and/or creative agency experience preferred
  • Keen understanding of both 1) the craft and mechanics of writing, and 2) creative concepting and ideation
  • A passion for, and interest in, running and exercise preferred
  • A working knowledge of running-specific vocabulary
  • An aptitude for taking on multiple projects while maintaining attention to detail
  • Fearless curiosity to ask all questions, great and small
  • Proven time management skills and commitment to deadlines
  • Excellent interpersonal skills that inspire and build trust, resulting in effective working relationships across departments
  • Demonstration of innovation and initiative, plus an openness to learn
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Experience in the competitive running space preferred

Brooks Sports, Inc., also known as Brooks Running, is an American sports equipment company that designs and markets high-performance men's and women's sneakers, clothing, and accessories. Headquartered in Seattle, Washington, Brooks products are available in 60 countries worldwide. It is a subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway.

Brooks, founded in 1914, originally manufactured shoes for a broad range of sports. "White hot" in the mid-70s, the company faltered in the latter part of the decade, and filed for bankruptcy protection in 1981. In 2001, the product line was cut by more than 50% to focus the brand solely on running, and its concentration on performance technology was increased. Brooks Running became the top selling brand in the specialty running shoe market in 2011, and remained so through 2017 with a 25% market share.

Brooks shoes have been named "Best Women's Running Shoe" and "Best Winter Running Shoe" by publications including Runner's World and Sports Illustrated. The company has been recognized for environmental sustainability programs and technical innovation.
